airport taxi

by jesshew

Hi! I'm making hotel reservations to stay one night in downtown guilin. The online booking service offered to arrange an airport "see-off service" on the morning we leave. The price they offered is 450 RMB for one vehicle. Can't I find a taxi for less than that? Even at 6am?

Thanks!

On-line services are more expensive for everything in China. That's a ridiculous price for taxis. The airport is about 30 km out of town. Taxis charge 7RMB flat fair for the first 2KM, then 1.6 or 2 for every KM after. I'm no math genius, but that comes to around 65RMB.

There's a bus that leaves at 6:30 and it costs 20RMB.

Not fair and never get a low price when take the taxi in China! find another taxi and let's compare the price.

Price are listed (in english) on a sign on the back door of the cab, and often inside the taxi. There's no reason to bargain anymore.

Just back from Guilin three weeks ago.

We took a taxi from the hotel in Zhongshan Lu which is located in downtown to airport at 10.00am we paid RMB100 which we asked him before we boarded the taxi. The taxi driver was asking whether we want to go by highway we have to pay for the toll. We said we have plenty of time so he took another road. He did not use the meter.

When we took the taxi from the Guilin airport to the bus station near Zhongshan Lu, we paid RM88 inclusive of 3 tolls of RMB10 each. The taxi uses the meter.

I would organise the taxi when you get there. The hotel can do it for you. The price is a total rip off. We took a taxi from Yangshuo to Guilin airport for less than that.

Comic Book rental

by herzog63

Here in Guilin as well as most other cities that I visited in China there were comic book rentals set up along the street for the locals to have a seat and read the comics. They seemed very popular because every one of them that I saw had several people gathered around just reading. It seemed like a quiet time as no one seemed to be speaking to each other...just engrossed with the stories!! I'm not sure of the pricing as I never tried to rent one. I just thought is interesting.

Heinz-Memorial-Dinner

by tini58de about the food stalls at the central square

Right around the central square there are lots of food stalls with local food. We picked out one of them to celebrate a dinner, that my husband had wanted us to buy in his name.

This Heinz-Memorial-Dinner was one of our most wonderful dinners we had during the whole trip! The food stall we picked out had lots of delitious things, that you could pick and they fried it for you.

We had mushrooms, beef, octopus, fish, cabbage, cauliflower, meatballs, broccoli and chicken - and we did order more than once, because it was soooooo delicious

Fubo Hill

by yipsufen

On the western bank of Li River and the north end of Binjiang Road, the isolated and imposing Fubo Hill is based on the ground in part and in water in part. Stone steps zigzag onto the hill, passing by the Resting Ground and Scenic Pavilion on the hill shoulder. On the hillside there are scenic spots such as Returning Pearl Cave, Thousand Buddha Rock and Sword Testing Stone which is a thread of space over the ground (a mere one inch gap), in addition to the stone inscriptions and buddha carvings from Tang and Song dynasties.

Near to the entrance where you can see a bronze statue of a general (General Fubo) on horse, there's plenty of souvenir stalls for you to test your bargaining skills. They are selling mostly knick-knacks, bracelets and postcards.

Once you enter the Fubo Hill compound you can see many species of flowers and plants with clear label. There's a gazebo with a giant green copper bell which weighs 2524kg. The area here is shady with some old and big banyan trees. A small temple is situated inside the Thousand Buddha Rock.

People-watch in Guilin

by lindyz

I always enjoy watching the locals just go about their daily business. I like to take photos, but will always stop and first ask them if it is ok if I take a pic, most of the time they seem quite honoured.
