We were amused and delighted with the number of 3-wheeled trucks we saw in the Guilin area. After trying to take a photo of one as we were traveling along the road, our local driver pulled into a parking lot where I got this shot.

How's the weather in Guilin/Yangzhuo, China end of December?
We be taking a family vacation to Guilin/Yangzhuo at the end of December to beginning of January. Wish to know how's the weather in Guilin, China around Xmas to New Year? Will it be cold? There will be 2 kids age 6 and 4 tagging along, so is wondering if we should bring some thick winter clothes along. And is there any places of visit around Guilin/Yangzhuo to recommend?

We were in Guilin and Yangshuo around this time. The weather did not seem as cold as in other parts of China at that time. I do recall going for a bike ride and taking my jumper off and only wearing a tea shirt..mind you we were riding bicycles. I do believe you will need to take some jumpers/pullovers but not have to take thick underclothes.

Sorry should have written this before. Make sure you spend more time in Yangshuo than Guilin!!

Travel Tips for Guilin
Zhongshan Middle Road Shopping Street
Each evening from 7.30 until midnight the main street of Guilin ( Zhongshan Rd ) is closed and it becomes a bustling night market. You will be able to shop till you drop at the hundreds of stall that sell everything from tea to electronic goods. Be sure to bargain, it's half the fun and the merchants expect it!
Stalls here mostly sell souvenirs and knick-knacks from all parts of China and they sell mostly the same kind of goods too.
You can try their sour vegetables which is a type of appetizer made from vinegared vegetables or fruits. Perhaps the chinese kind of salad.
Niko Niko Do Plaza and Guilin Departmental Store are situated here.
Fubo Hill
Another of the cool Limestone mountains to climb is Fubo Hill. It is located right next to the Li River. You could hike up this one after visiting Duxiu Feng or if you're going to be in Guilin for a few days visit one each day so you don't get burned out on climbing the hills. This is what I did.
Fir Lake
Water plays an important role in Guilin.
A couple of lakes meandering in town complement the river: Fir Lake, edged by a small and cool garden, with its two pagodas, is really nice and one of the most photogenic points of Guilin.
Rong Hu water fountain show
After nightfall at Rong Hu, the water fountains at the surface of the lake come alive for a wonderful water show... Using variable levels of water pressure and colored lights, accompanied by some lovely pieces of music, the water fountains provides a delightful fantasia for the senses... It's not quite to the level of the Bellagio water show in Las Vegas, but it makes for a pleasant and romantic evening...
