Drought in Quilin

by wannyu

I will be going to Quilin on 28th Mar for 3 nights, and I heard that the drought situation there is rather serious and that the River cruise and the Shows arecancelled.
Can someone advise me regarding this and if they are cancelled can you help me with suggestions of how to make up for them.

I don't recommend you go there at this time, can you change itinerary now and go other places instead? There are plenty of places to see in China.

Thanks but we went and came back. We did the Impression show and a third of the cruise..And, it rained the next 2 days!!We have to come back again to savour its beauty. The caves were good with a bit of rollercoaster, rail. boat ride and up the lift.We enjoyed the food too esp at the Souper Restaurant/

Travel Tips for Guilin

The Li river

by Luchonda

Once in Guilin - you have to visit and cross the river by boat.
It will take you out in a landscape of mystery and every mountain will tell it's story.
use a little bit yr imagination and you will recognize elephants - dragons etc. It reminds me at Phuket in Thailand !
Fabulous landscapes !

Swimming in Li River

by yipsufen

Most local folks who live nearby the Li River know how to swim. By wearing just an underwear, they will just swim to their heart's content. Water is clean and calm and most of all it's free and you won't be caught by police. There's even a swimming competition held during winter.

Cheap Noodles

by herzog63 about Many....

From reading through my journal I can tell you that I ate pretty cheap!! One of my lunches consisted of Noodles and Vegetables without meat and it cost a whopping price of 4 Mao and 1 Mao equalled US$.0019 cents at the exchange rate that I had so that meal cost less than US$.08 cents!! I'm sure it was in a small local place I didn't write down the name of the restaurant. But I can vaguely picture in my mind these places that I ate. I had another meal that included Noodles, Veggies and Meat for 2 Yuan (US$.36 cents) The meat must have added to the cost. My quote from my journal about that place..."It's more expensive than ordinary noodles but very delicous" ahhaha I can remember eating that meal with soaking wet feet and sharing a table with a local guy that kept spitting on the floor which sadly is/was a local custom. I laughing right now as I click the Under $10 button!!! I could have had 125 meals of regular noodles with veggies for under $10!!

The photo is a poorly focused relection photo from one of the caves.

by Paolo-Italy

Visit the night market which...

by dzni

Visit the night market which can be found on the banks of the Li River at, well, night. It's across from a really nice hotel, maybe the Sheraton. Anyway, this is some of the usual trinkets and neat finds that you'll see all over China, only it's at night and all lit up... quite a neat experience. I was proud of myself because I haggled a woman down on an antique-looking (though probably just old and used and not worth anything) Mahjongg set from a ridiculously high price to much much lower and got a pretty good deal on it, I thought.
