Travel Tips for Liuzhou

Pickles on Stick

by myspices

These are great appetisers! Pickles on sticks : zucchinis, radish, ginger and vegetables bulbs are "threaded" together in sticks. These are sold along the streets. Lots of chillies pieces are seen on top of these pickles and they looked spicy but the taste is not really spicy - more like sourish and sweet and crunchy. I bought the cute looking ones - the vegetable bulbs - interesteing taste with a nice crunch!

Per stick of pickles : 1yuan to 2yuan.

Sweet Corn...not really sweet

by myspices

I love corn but the corn sold here is slightly different. It's not reallly soft and juicy but more like glutinous in taste and you need to chew it real well as it's hard. The colour of the grains is of a pale white/cream. Some come in a mixture of colours of white dotted with a few grains of brown/maroon. Many locals seem to enjoy the bite very much. I guess they are used to this type of corn. These are sold everywhere along the streets - usually steamed with a little basin or pot over a small stove. Choose the one you want and the vendor will rip off the leaves and stem for you and you will have a hot steaming corn in a plastic bag.

Price per corn : 1.50yuan

by dahcky

The international Fantastic Stone Feltival is held in Liuzhou every year. The Festival organisers are Liuzhou Mumicipal People's Government,China Scenery and garding Association,China Diamond and Jade Association,China Collectors' Association.
Why is the Festival only held in Liuzhou not in other city in the world? The secret is that almost all kinds of stones can be found in or around Liuzhou area.
many stones are named according what they are look like. But the other stones don't have names. They are waiting for you to buy them and give them names.

See the Future - Chinese Crystalball

by myspices

Want to know what lies ahead for you .... you can get this told by fortune tellers who can read the "crystalball" if you give them your name, date of birth, time of birth and sometimes by looking at the lines on your palms. They will usually ask whether you would like to know about your career, marriage, family, fortune, studies, sickness and safety. Then, they will sort of doing a little "counting" with their fingers, flip through the "reference books" and tell you what lies ahead of you. Well, most of the times, the person will seek to know the overall well-being of his life. True or not .....it's your belief.

Liuzhou - Industrial City of Guangxi

by vincentf

Liuzhou is Guangxi's 2nd largest city, lying between the capital of Nanning and Guilin. It is an industrial city and thus, the air pollution is quite bad. There are many city parks to stroll around, such as Li Yu Feng Scenic Area.

The Liu River meanders through the entire city. The city has 5 bridges that span the river. The picture shows one of the five.

During early morning rush hour, there are so many bikes and mopeds that you'd think you're in Taiwan!
