Sweetened dessert in tiny cups
by myspices
While walking along the shops after we have visited Liuhou Gongyuan, we saw these cute little cups filled with colourful desserts : some are with red beans, some with corns and some are strawberry. These are actually desserts made from rice flour and mixed with the variety of flavours and then steamed to cook. We tried the red beans and the corn flavoured desserts. The vendor will use a stick to scoop out the dessert. It will then look like a "lollipop". Taste is nice and texture is springy. Price : 1 yuan each
Maple syrup sweets - "Ting-ting" sweets
by myspices
These sweeties are usually sold in pushcarts. It's a huge piece of maple syrup sweet with sesame sprinkled on it. The vendor will use a flat "chisel" and a small "hammer" to chip off pieces from the big "pastry" of sweet and thus making the sound "ting..ting..ting.." The sweet is sold in pieces and you can choose which one you like...Once you have chosen, you can request her to chip it further into tiny bit pieces.
The sweet kind of slowly melt in your mouth and if you chew it... the blend of the sesame seeds give it a very nice flavoured taste. Best to eat it as soon as keeping it too long will cause the sweet to "melt" and becomes sticky.

Price per piece : 1yuan
Healthy Lifestyle - Exercise and Dancing
by myspices
One of the many activities engaged by most elders of China is either exercising and/or dancing. You can catch these scenes in gardens and parks. Most elderly citizens get up very early and they go to any of the many parks and gardens for these activities. Some will even bring in their "music machine" to spice up the dance. Exercising is either the "tai chi" or the "sword dance". This is really healthy lifestyle. If you are a citizen, you can enter the gardens and parks free of charge, foreigners will have to pay a small entrance fee.

Doggie Specialty - Common
by myspices
Well, not really a lover of dogs or the cats but somehow to try this specialty of doggie meat ...errrr..is not my idea of blending into the local customs. There are so many of these doggie meat shops along the streets, especially at night. Most of the shops will be crowded - of course with the locals. Walked past , saw on display really roasted doggie - head, limbs and all.... Most of the locals were "enjoying" a hot pot of it......and also drinking lots of beer.
According to the locals - doggie meat tastes best. It's delicious when stewed. Mind you, to eat doggie meat is not really cheap. Some good ones are really costly... could be more than a 100yuan per kati. Eating doggie meat is very nutritious - so they say....gives lot of heat to the body especially during the cold weather.
You can see these along night market along Feie Lu and some adjoining lanes

by Guantanamera
Liuzhou is a relatively small Chinese city at perhaps less than 1 million people, and is located near the more famous scenic areas of Guangxi province around Guilin and Yangshuo, containing its own collection of limestone peaks...
