Painted Little Bottles - Unique Art
by myspices
If you want to get something really unique, this is what you should buy. The little bottles are hand painted - not on the outside, but painted from the inside. The artist skilfully, using a fine brush, draws and paints the picture inside the bottle. Now, can you imagine ... how unique the art is..... whatever that you draw has to be a "reverse" so that when the picture is seen from the outside, reflects the correct form of the picture. You can either buy the ready painted bottles on display or request the artist to paint whatever you desire on the chosen bottles. Prices vary and you can bargain for a price. Here, you can see that she has completed the "inside job" of painting the little panda .... Beautiful, isn't it?
Attached another picture to show the artist in full concentration when she's doing the "inside job"
Cormorane fishing
by tini58de
In this area, the fishermen often use cormoranes to go fishing with. They have these small boats and sometimes you can see a couple of these birds sitting on the boat. Never did see them "in action" though!
There's this path by this pond...
by John195123
Heading out of Yangshuo towards the village of Yima is a nice walk. There's no sidewalk, but traffic's fairly light and, unlike in the cities, motorcyclists and bikers will move toward the center of the road to give you space. It's kind of refreshing. On the way there's a cave you can visit called the Yulong Cave- it has lights and all, I gather from the photos on the sign outside, but looks unkempt at the stairway from the road, so who knows if it's still running. But the walk is nice and you can get to the Dragon Bridge if you keep heading north.
Beside the road, on the left if you're going north, is a sign for a scenic spot, 300m. Take the road to the left and be on the lookout for a small path on the right that crosses a little bridge. The path takes you to a dead end, but opens onto rice paddies and a trail you can walk on out into the paddies. I don't know if you're trespassing or not, but it's worth it.
Rafting
by albaaust
If you don't have the facility to hire a boat an alternative is to take a leisurely raft down the Yulong, Li or Jinbao River.
There are a number of places that you can hire a raft - they all looked like pretty "dreamy" places to me especially around Dragon Bridge and at the foot of Gongnong bridge.
Please note that the oarsman might indicate that they cannot take your bikes with them. What they will arrange is for someone else to take the bikes to your destination. Don't be alarmed!!
Cost: 200 Yuan
French Dining in Chinese Temple
by yipsufen about Le Votre Restaurant
If you see a chinese temple in the middle of West Street, don't take it mistakenly as a place for worship for the locals. It actually houses a French-Chinese restaurant called Le Votre. However, the restaurant is a bit out of sight because the walkway is blocked by some stalls and big umbrellas. Luckily you still can notice their soggy menu erected outside.
There are many tables set up at the outside compound so that you can dine alfresco.
Opens from 9:30am to midnight. Food is a bit pricey compared to other cafes or restaurants here. Some of the recommended dishes are Beer Fish, Stuffed Snail Meat, Banana Yam Pancake, pastries and dessert. You can also try their home-made beer.
