You're best be for mountian biking is the Yangshuo Village Inn, a sister hotel of the Yangshuo Mountain Retreat and as of recently, #1 on TripAdvisor. there are some beautiful big hills right outside this hotel and they have Trek bikes for rent. Same at the Mountain Retreat, but you need to cross the river for trails. Happy travels! Lisa One of the best boutique hotels in China

Are there places to stay outside yangshuo? I'd like to make a quick getaway for a few days and relax. I want to be away from the tourist center and get to one of the hotels outside the town. I know that Yangshuo mountain retreat and Moon resort exist, but are there any others. I'm looking for a clean place, with good access to biking and hiking trails

There are some small hotels outside the Yangshuo town. There is a small village named Moon Hill Village (Li Village) where are available a lot of hostels and local restaurants, meanwhile they are not far from Yangshuo resorts. The surrounding is worthy of your exploration. Cycling along the narrow path of the rice field and strolling around the serene villages would be fantastic. Gold Cat mountain resort on the way to Moon hill is recommended where rock climbing is offered.

In several places we noticed that some people use long special sleeves to drive.
I never saw it anywhere, and don't know the idea.
Even the electric car that took us from Yangshuo to the farming area, was driven by a lady wearing... long sleeves.

The pretext to visit the fabulous bank of the river was... an invitation to have a glass of local wine. Great.
A fabulous convivial moment, in a marvelous site, and the wine... was it important?
No! But, to be fair, I must say that it was a decent red wine, with nothing in common with the "poison" that I drunk in a Chinese restaurant in New York, for the price of a small diamond.
Yangshuo bus station caters for not only intercity buses but also long distance buses to other parts of the China's provinces. Long distance buses are usually of the sleepers type - "sleeping berths" in 3 rows of two deckers each. It would be better if you buy your tickets before hand so as to avoid disappointment. We got hold of our tickets to Zhuhai on our arrival in Yangshuo and we make sure that this time round we get to sleep in the lower berth which is more convenient.
The bus ride from Yangshuo to Zhuhai was about 12hours (we boarded the bus at 8.30pm and arrived Zhuhai next morning at 8.35am). The fare was 200yuan per pax one way. The bus do make a couple of short stops for washrooms and one longer stop for food. Sleeper buses are clean and you are suppose to take off your shoes when you step into the bus (They will give you a plastic bag to put your shoes in). Blankets are provided for the cold night in the bus. Finally there's something to be thankful about being short .... you will feel more comfortable in sleeper bus as the bed is rather narrow and short..ha.haha... For those who cannot sleep, some buses play video shows (usually Chinese movies) until about 11pm before they turn off the lights. There is a bus driver and an attendant and they take turns to drive.
Note : Bring along your MP3 ...this will lullaby you to sleep and remember not to drink too much water before the journey..ya.

All along west street you will find western restaurants. There must be over 40 of them or so. All fairly cheap but some are not good at all. Just make sure you go to the places where you see people sitting around etc....we went to a couple empty restaurants a few times and were not happy at all...with mainly the food and the service. A stake dinner costs about 20-50RMB at most places and 1 steak dinner will make you nice and full. I suggest you do not try a steak in smaller cities in China if you are a steak fan as the meat is just not the same as back home.....This is just for smaller cities, i have had great steak dinners in other Chinese cities....enjoy...
