Wang Jiang Lou's Hostel: We loved it!

We moved to Wang Jiang Lou's on our second day in Zhaoxing. For the same price we paid at Lulu's (Y60), we got a room that has a river view, fan, tv (not that we needed it), more roomy and, more importantly, an ensuite bathroom with heater and western toilet. The room is definitely more pleasing to the eye. The location is perfect. It's right on the river/main street. Not noisy at night because there's no nightlife in Zhaoxing.

Book by telephone only. The guy said he could not understand English so emailing him in English will be futile.

Rooms 202, 203, 302, and 303 all have river view. There are only 7 rooms in this hostel.

Tel: 0855 6130269.

Lulu's Home Stay: Mrs Lu is a nice host

Our host in Chengyang helped us to book Lulu's Home Stay the day before we arrived in Zhaoxing.

We stayed at a second floor room (#204). Y60, fan, 2 single beds, in-room toilet. Small room.

Overall we didn't like the room. The window looks out to the neighbor's wall. There's a toilet but no faucet to wash hands or brush teeth. No shower. Just the toilet. Shared bathroom is at the ground floor, and you must pass through the people at the reception/dining area. There's a toilet with faucet at the end of the hall on the 2nd floor, but still no shower.

The hostess, Mrs Lu, was very nice but spoke no English.

Free (slow) internet at the reception.

The guesthouse faces a branch of the river. A bit difficult to describe the location but you should be able to ask for directions from the Tourist Office at the bus stop.

We were told Lulu's is one of the first guesthouses to open in Zhaoxing that is why it's popular. But there are other nice options around (like the Wang Jiang Lou's Hostel along the main river).

Lulu's Homestay: A different way to stay...

I also didn't stay here, but Lulu's is back off the road a bit and looked pretty interesting.

At least it seems to be a homestay, and it's housed in a building like any other in town.

Zhaoxing Hotel: Comfortable and Easy

Comfortable rooms with clean bathrooms and supplied candles with the electricity goes out, the Zhaoxing Hotel sits up a side street where it's a bit quieter. The staff didn't speak English at the time of writing, but they are friendly.

Keep in mind that when you are leaving, if you're catching the early bus out of town, the desk may not open until 7:30am for checkout. We missed the bus after we went downstairs and found the doors locked and no one at reception. Tired, and not feeling like waking anyone, we waited in the room and slept for a bit longer.

Dong Xiang Guesthouse: Best accommodation in Zhaoxing

It's easy to find a lodging place in Zhaoxing. But Dong Xiang Guesthouse maybe is the best one. It's a 3-storied wood house. The room is very clean. Each room has 2 single beds. You can get one bed at 20~30 yuan.
