Holiday Inn Sanya Bay: Nice rooms, great service, but pimps???

The rooms were great - spacious and clean. The service staff were attentive and friendly. Food was a bit on the expensive side (but that is to be expected for a holiday resort). Massage centre offered a pretty good variety of treatments, and the ambience was nice. The only gripe I have with the hotel is that there were pimps operating rather openly from within the resort. All the guys on the trip got approached by them! Overall, great hotel if you're willing to ignore the pimps.

The hotel had a pool with fish that ate dead skin (fish therapy). This was extremely ticklish, but my skin did feel smoother after I went in!

I live in a non-seaview room with two single beds. Room is clean & spacious. Lots of TV program with HBO, discovery channel etc. No bathtub. With two bottle of complimentary mineral water.

My stay comes with dinner & breakfast in noodles restaurant. We eats noodles (choose from the menu) for dinner and eat porride for breakfast.

For the 1st time during breakfast, it is buffet style but no much variety and it is chinese dish/style. for the 2nd time during breakfast, we are being served porride with few dishes.

there is outdoor swimming pool which by the sea. it will not be suitable to swim if it is too windy (normally during Nov time of the years). there is rented bicycle, tennis courts etc. You can swim and have drink at the same time at their bar.

There is a indoor fish spa for this resort. You pay RMB88 for jacuzzi, sauna, swimming pool and fish spa. no time limit. child has to pay as well. There is safe locker to keep your belonging inside the spa.

It is out of town and no other shops nearby. There is free shuttle bus to Pearl Plaza from day and night. You can get the schedule from the check in counter. Heard that you can get cheap things there..

Advertised locally as a 5 star resort, but is your average hotel...

Would recommend this hotel to somebody who wants to stay someplace quieter, away from downtown.

Service was great. Rooms were clean. Front desk was very helpful regarding local information.

Breakfast buffet was a mix of Chinese, Korean, and western.

Clientelle was a mix of Chinese, Russians, and Koreans. You will see more Koreans there than anyone else, I think, as they do some sork of package deal with Korean companies...
The workers I talked to were very surprised to find out I was Canadian.

Price was approx. $55/night for two people in a decent twin room.

Very close to a beautiful, secluded beach. If pools are more your preference, they have two that are nice, as well as a kiddie pool. Outdoor BBQ facilities.

It is a bit far (10-15min drive) from downtown, so you have to take a taxi when you want to go somewhere.
You can arrange a taxi service for the day, for a decent price. The driver doesn't speak english, so be sure to have the english-speaking front desk workers translate and be very clear about where you want to go.

They operate two seperate hotel compounds, with the same name.
Be sure your transportation drops you off at the right one!
But, if you do get dropped off at the wrong one, they run shuttles between the two. So not really a problem, they will imediatly run you right over to the right place.

Haikou Banana Youth Hostel: Hainan Island

Really lovely place to stay. It is in a delightful part of town, the staff are friendly, and the managers speak perfect English. Better yet, they always have a moment to do a little translating or help you make arrangements to visit the rest of Hainan Island. Thoughtfulness is the rule always, and it makes being a guest a very pleasant experience indeed. The clientele is a nice mix from everywhere, including China. The ambience is fun, but still restful and homelike. The rooms are done with tasteful simplicity. Great food and plently of entertainment is just down the street. Can't say enough good about the hostel or the city or the whole island, for that matter. I'm going to stay here longer than I planned because it is so lovely.

A: "Trains on Hainan arrive to the island by train ferry, so if there are high speed trains they have to terminate on the mainland side."
