Sanya Pearl River Garden Hotel

Our arrival was 3am and the room we were given was way below acceptable standard,knocked about, dirty and old, because of the time of night we decided to sleep on it and sort out the problem in the morning. This we did and were given a newly refurbished room on the top floor (slightly extra charge) but what a view. I would say the standard of the Hotel was about 3 star, although rated 4 star ( maybe the lobby 4 star) but the position of the hotel is 5 star. Breakfast, very ordinary, tending to cater to Polish people who seem to be there in numbers. The main Chinese restaurant is just ok. There are plenty of seaside restaurants nearby, so no need to eat at the hotel. Smoking is still accepted as normal in eating establishments in China, hopefully this will change soon.
I am sure this hotel will improve with time, I would be prepared to give it another go.
We thought about moving to the more up market Yalong Bay area but your out of it down there.

Unique Quality: The hotel pool is ok but too small, but it does overlook the beach and it is a very nice beach, the beach has fine white sand and the water is clear and warm, the location of the hotel is near to many things, supermarkets,, other hotels , shopping complexes, transport and the City of Sanya. There is a tourist bus that takes you where you want to go very cheaply but the smoking thing still happens on the bus. If you do not speak Chinese or have directions in chinese do not go anywhere near a cab as they have no understanding of English at all and as we found out they just keep driving and you end up having to get them to keep stopping until you fid someone who understands English and direct them back to your hotel, believe me it takes some doing. Overall though we really liked Sanya and hope to go back.

Directions: Sanya is a 2hr50min flight from Shanghai and is on the Island of Hainan
