by JudyfromBoise

Hi, I am looking at possibility of teaching Nursing for a month at Chengde College.
Is it a nice city ?
What would the weather be like in early fall ?
Would it be safe for a 42 year old women to explore on her own ?
Of course i have lot's more questions....but i don't want to burden you :)

Yes, it's a nice small city with Gardens, small mountains and rivers. As it's located in the North China, it would be a little bit cold in early fall. The temperature in September may be around 10 celsius. Difference in temprature between day and night might reach 10 degree.
It is safe there. Since the places are all near the city, better ride a bike to wherever you are interested in.

The temples around Chengde resemble famous Tibetan temples like the Potala in Lhasa. Emperor Qianlong had a special liking for the Tibetian peeople and the Buddhism as one of his favourite wives was from Tibet. That is why he built this temples.

Mongolian Ger Resort

by Willettsworld

Having just come back from a trip to Mongolian, I was quite surprised to see these Mongolian Gers lined up as part of a resert. However, they look far more comfortable than the ones I stayed in as they look like they have air-conditioning and proper front doors. They're also musch higher than the ones in Mongolia. You can stay here, if you so wish, with the Ger Resort being located on the eastern side of the Mountain Resort.

Chengde: Near Beijing

by ll_angel86

Chengde, is a few hours away from Beijing. It's an entirely different experience so don't miss it. I had a great time there. More sharing at http://hubpages.com/_vt86/hub/My-Impressions-of-China-Beijing

Beefy's Chengde Page

by Beefy_SAFC

Chengde is a town north of the Great Wall and four hours train journey from Beijing. It is home to the Summer Resort, the retreat of the former Chinese emperors, consisting of an extremely large area of parkland, as well as the palace, through which most tourists enter.

Also at Chengde is a Tibetan Buddhist Monastery (remember to say 'Tashi Delek' to one of the monks while inside) and also a replica of the Potala Palace, built during the Qing dynasty for the then Dalai Lama, as an alternative residence, when the Qing (Manchurian) - Tibetan overlordship relationship was in place. The palace was never occupied, the various Dalai Lamas remaining in Tibet.
