Tangshan
"Rising from its ashes"
In 1973, the deadliest earthquake in history struck the city of Tangshan, killing over 250,000 people. It has now rebuilt as a fairly modern city; however it doesn't have too much history, and it isn't the most interesting city in China. But if you're on you're way from Beijing to Beidaihe, Shanhaiguan, or even Harbin, you can stop over at Tangshan for a few hours to explore a city that hasn't been discovered by many tourists.
