The Chairman Mao Shop
At the bottom of Snake Hill before you climb to the Yellow Crane Tower (everywhere in China requires climbing steps) is this shop selling items comemmorating Chairman Mao.
The shop has old pictures and out of print works by the Chairman as well as statuettes. This was the only place I saw any present day tribute to Chairman Mao. Most people I talked to about him said he had slowed China's development because he was a poor economist, but he was a talented poet.
I bought a statuette and an out of print book of his poems in English. They wouldn't bargain on the price so I agreed on full price if the salesgirls in old style jackets would allow a photo taken in front of the shop.
Chairman Mao is still well thought of by many people in Wuhan. He had a residence and twice swam the Changjiang here.
