Meridian Gate
by Willettsworld
The Meridian Gate was the front gate into the Ming Imperial Palace. It took a 'U' shape with double watchtowers on the front and three gates in the middle. On the curved and southern part there were another two gates, one facing east and the other facing west. The double watchtowers on the wall have been destroyed and the only remains of the gate, today, are its five arch gates.
Peaceful and Promising Nanjing
by aquil
Nanjing is a place of cultured and very friendly people, u can not feel but accomodated in this calm and quiet city. Make friends here and enjoy your stay.
You can find 2 star decent hotels ranging from 11 USD to 5/4 star hotels. But u need not worry about that, enough accomodation remains available in all categories the year around.
My best advise is to immediately buy two maps, one the nanjing travel guide and other the nanjing public transport guide. Both of these u can get from Xinhua Bookstores (outlets at Hunan Lu) and Nanjing Tourism Offices (Hunan Lu). Second u should get hold of the latest copies of "map magazine" and "Life" magazine. u will get all the help and info u need about social and other aspects of nanjing.
