I am a 'foreigner' as I am so described at my workplace, so, I tend to favour the 'Western' style restaurants. The best in the city is the Swede and Kraut which has great pizza, pasta's and some German meat dishes. The pasta is great.
The Linggu Temple Scentic spot is at the eastern slope of Zhongshan Mountain, the places of interest include: Linggu Temple, Beamless Hall, Pine-wind Pavilion, Linggu Pagoda, Tomb of Tan Yakai and Slide Amusement Park.
To get to that scenic spot from the Dr. Sun Yat-sen scenic spotyou I took a tourist train 3 Yuan.
Its a rather peaceful and secluded place. That is why the ancients set a table there "Dense Pine in the Valley". The hall and pagoda for Baozhi, a monk of Liang Dynasty are deep in the pine forest with a stream running around.
This palace in the west of the city within the city walls was originally established as a school for educating aristocratic children during the Ming dynasty. Most of the buildings today including the central Confucian Temple date from 1866 when the whole complex was rebuilt following the Taiping Rebellion. There's a museum inside (see next tip).
