Airport shuttle bus

by susanpingu

I plan to stay at Nanjing Danfeng International Hotel, 59-1 Yushi Street, North Floor 5, Nanjing, when I visit a few weeks from now. This hotel rates seem low, about USD9 for a single private w/o bath but is it in a good central location in Xinjiekou? Is there a better one I should consider?

Oh yes, where can I find the airport shuttle bus at Nanjing airport to go downtown Xinjiekou? I don't want to spring for a taxi(Y150 I've heard) since I'm travelling alone. Details on how to take the airport bus, transfers, etc. greatly appreciated. Thanks.

USD9 is not bad for a room with bath.
You can take airport shuttle from Nanjing Lukou International Airport and may take off at Zhonghua Men, then take a metro/subway to Xinjiekou.
Of course it will cost over hundred RMB for a taxi from airport caz it's an hour trip.

Hi neverstoptravel

Thanks, and where does one find the airport shuttle bus? I don't want to look like a foreigner(when I can look like a local :D) who's just landed, asking where is the bus. Is it to the left or right of the main exit, upstairs or down? What's the bus number? I don't even know if Nanjing airport is huge or just average sized.

Btw USD9 for room without bath......must be a small one. Room with bath is about USD25.

Nanjing Lukou International Airport is a mid sized one and you may find the shuttle easily at exit.
There is only one line running bound for Nanjing city so that you will not board the wrong one.
It dosen't matter you look like a foreigner or local.

I have put a tip in about the shuttle bus and using shuttle buses throughout China on my China pages.
We found it quite easy to use them- they were usually just outside the main entrance of the airport.

You may consider Jin's Inn Xinjiekou Nanjing. A single room costs less than USD18 per night.

It is owned by Jinling Hotel that is the best 5-star hotel in Nanjing.

You're welcome.

Aren't we used to the wet weather in Vancouver anyway? :-)

Travel Tips for Nanjing

Ancient Astronomical Instruments and Scary Path

by sherwoodFL

Zijinshan Observatory may not be completely off the beaten path, but the road we took to it certainly was. We came up the cable car - see my other tip - and the path from the cable car to the observatory was just bizarre. I think it went around half the mountain, and then entered the observatory gate through a bathroom. The path was extremely narrow, very rough - going from mud to rocks back to mud - the fence that would have stopped us from falling down the VERY steep slope was instead on the uphill side, stopping us from getting into the observatory without paying, and at one point the path was under construction, so we had to get around that area by hanging onto a rope strung between trees - over the slope! The observatory itself has a lovely old Kuomintang observatory building and some fascinating astronomical instruments, highly recommended to anyone interested in astronomy or just antique technologies. You can also take a bus or taxi up to the observatory, I believe, but that would be much less interesting.

Nanjing City Wall

by albaaust

We walked from Yuejiang Temple along the city wall until we could not walk any more. It was, like walking along other city walls a very interesting surreal experience.

There was no cost associated with walking along it!

The Sacrificial Altar of the six Dynasty

by marsistanbul

The Sacrificial Altar was discovered in 1999 at the southern foot of the main peak of the Zhongshan Mountain about 200 meters to the north of the Purple Clouds Lake.Including to altars and an auxiliary building section, the ruins belong to the middle ages of the six dynasties(222-589) and have a history of more than 1500 years. The main body of the altar, square shape.is located in due north-south direction and made up four layers and five walls with total floorage of more than 8000sqm.The altar look magnificent with the highest point exceeding 10 meters and the largest stone weight over 2 tons.
On the altar,a large number of precious cultural were excavated including eaves tiles and stone pedestals with lotus designs in typical Six Dynasties style. As textual research shows, the altar was where the emperor held sacrificial ceremonies. It is the only state altar ruins found in Nanjing so far which was built before the Ming Dynasty.
In 2001.the Sacrificial Altar of Six Dynasties on Zhongshan Mountain was elected as one of "China's ten leading archaeological discoveries of 2000"
