by Wenzel

still new in this place of nanjing, and things are puzzling me with the following questions?
where can I get a detailed english nanjing map?
where can I have my facial care that is not that expensive in xinjiekou or da zhao nanlu?
where can I take the shuttle bus going to METRO SHOP (a big department store)
Where can I eat barbequ lamb? they said there is one in wangfudajie?

Thanks.

Re: Where??????

Looked online and found no shuttle bus information for Nanjing Metro.
For BBQ lamb, try Keziguli Restaurant at 53 Wangfu Dajie.

Re: Where??????

thanks for the help I will surely go to wangfudajie to try their lamb. But first I have to secure a detailed nanjing map.

Don't think it'd be easy at all to get a detailed map in English. In Chinese it's definitely possible.
You'll have to make do with a copy from the major guidebooks.

the guys in the street that sell the tourist maps have an English version that is not too bad. find them in the pedestrian underpasses around Xinjekou or hanging out in the stairwell of the Train station.
Good luck

Travel Tips for Nanjing

Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall

by conniechong

Nanjing Massacre (1937 Dec 13 to 1938 Feb)

When Nanjing was fallen to the Japanese troops, 300 thousand civilian were slaughtered in 6 weeks, by ways of shooting, stabbing, and the troops even carried out competition by killing the most.

Followed by this massacre, came along robbery, arson, raped and killed. The Court of International for Post War confirmed, during a month of the Japanese invasion, 20 thousand were rape cases. Victims ranged from 10 years old children to 70 years old women. Beside being tortured, their breast were cut and stomach ripped open.

I am only telling you the truth. My grandfather was captured to build the notorious rail road in Burma and my grandmother is a witness to the killings too.

Drop me your email address if you are interested to see the pictures I keep and to find out whether the killings of civilian during Japanese invasion is true.....

Qinhuai Area

by Rabbityama

The Qinhuai area around the Confucius Temple was detroyed during the Japanese invasion in WWII but has since been rebuilt. While it is probably more of a tourist-trap, as it is extremely commercial, it does offer nice views from the bridge of the rebuilt Ming Dynasty buildings. Depending on where else you will visit in China or how long you will be in the area, it may still be worthwhile to walk around. It's free to browse, although you will have to pay if you want to enter the temple.

Ming Tomb Scenic Area - Sacrificial Hall

by Willettsworld

The original Sacrificial Hall was built in 1383 for the memorial tablets of Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang. It was a huge wooden structure with 9 bays in width and 5 deep with 56 stone column bases which still exist today. This building was destroyed by war in 1853 and this building was then built in its place.
