Jinling Resort Nanjing

Nice setting, convenient for southern Nanjing

I've stayed at this location twice, once in fall 2009, again in January 2010; in total spending four nights. I selected the hotel on recommendation of business contacts, looking for a location convenient to the factory I visit.

Overall I have been very pleased with the hotel. The facilities are in good condition. The grounds include a nicely landscaped garden with a pond and vegetation. Restaurant has good Western breakfast and a variety of Chinese and western items available for lunch and dinner. Service has been good; staff are reasonably capable in English although if you have no Mandarin at all, it may take time to work out issues (may need to engage a manager with stronger English skills from time to time.)

One particular note: the hotel offers "Japanese style" rooms, which feature a bed area equipped with a tatami style floor mat and small futons. I found these quite comfortable, and the rooms were about 200 yuan ($30) cheaper than Western style rooms; if you are on a budget give this a try.

One minor negative: the building has no elevators. As I recall there are only 3 stories, but if you have physical limitations you may want to request a main floor room.

The hotel is located in a newly developed industrial area in the southern part of Nanjing. So, it's not particularly convenient to any of the tourist highlights of Nanjing; if sightseeing is your goal, you should select a hotel in the downtown area instead. On the other hand, this property is priced more economically than downtown, and is more convenient to the Nanjing airport (about 20 minutes by cab) so for a quick visit it would be fine. The same chain operates a hotel downtown; I have not used this personally but have had good experience with the Jinling chain elsewhere, too.

Unique Quality: The garden setting in the center of the property is very attractive; it's readily visible from the restaurant.
