Nanjing agenda and train to HZ

by dragon0419

I'm signed up for a one day tour of Nanjing and one day free. Do you think I need two full days to see all of Nanjing. I want to have enough time to see Sun Yat Sen's Memorial and the Massacre Museum. Can anyone recommend some food markets to visit in my free time. Lastly which train number do I catch to go to Hangzhou and where can I buy a ticket. I'll be staying at the Sofitel Hotel.

I would definitely need more than just 2 full days for Nanjing. At the minimum, 3, could be more.
For a bazaar atmosphere, go to Fuzimiao.
There's only 1 fast (D) train for Nanjing -- Hangzhou. You want D471 (1242--1643). Let me know if you want help with tickets.

I definitely agree Fuzimiao is an excellent place for trying out local food on-the-go and the shops there offer such good prices for clothes, shoes etc. that you need not even bargain at all. I was there in early Dec this year. The streets are closed to vehicles at night and the place beautifully lit, especially the river side so you can stroll and enjoy everything.

Travel Tips for Nanjing

Wang Dao-Xie An's Residence

by Willettsworld

During the Jin dynasty (265-420 AD), Wu Yi Xiang (meaning Black Clothes Lane) became the residence of Minister Wang Dao and was later resided by Minister Xie An as well as some other noble families. The residence was restored in 1997. It's located near the Fuzi Temple in the south of the city.

Admission: Free.

Memorial to Nanjing Massacre

by SLLiew

There are many eerie photos of the thousands that were massacred by the Japanese soldiers during World War II known as the "Rape of Nanking". At that time, Nanjing was the capital of China. Only a few living survivors and their descendants are accorded special treatment and status by PRC.

As mentioned, I arrived too late to enter the memorial and took a photo from outside. So be early and reach there before 4pm to have enough time to tour.

Ming Tomb Scenic Area - Imperial Tablet Hall

by Willettsworld

Originally the middle gate in front of the sacrificial hall, the original tablet hall was destroyed, with only the Sumeru steps left behind. The existing tablet hall was built in the late Qing dynasty. The tablet inscribed with “Governance modelled after prosperous Tang and Song Dynasties” erected in 1699 was personally written by emperor Kangxi during his inspection tour in southern China.
