Best Guilin rice noodles in Nanjing
The shop sells fat white Guilin noodles with a choice of different toppings, for anything starting from about 5 RMB for a big bowl. Don't know if there's an English menu (big red Chinese menu on the wall above the counter near the entrance) but I tried "quan2 jia1 fu2" which has beef slices, beef tendons and beef something-else (not innards), for 10 RMB. Excellent value for money, very filling and tasty!
The Ming Tomb is part of a larger tourist site known as Zhongshan Mountain National Park that includes a number of different parks, walks and monuments. The Ming Tomb is the tomb of Zhu Yuanzhang, the first emperor of the Ming dynasty. He was buried here in 1398.
There are a number of buildings associated with the tomb including Xiama Water Bridge, Big Golden Gate, Square City,Golden Water Bridge, Dajinmen gate, Wenwu Gate, Sifangcheng pavilion, Xiaoling Palace, Rectangular Citadel, Ming Tower and Treasure Mound. Make sure that you get a tourist map which does show you where everything is but unfortunately little else.
For this reason the significance of the various buildings "escaped" me but it was interesting to walk along the Sacred Avenue with its Stone Sculptures and meander through the various gates and "pavillions"
Nanjing Yangzi River Bridge
The Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge is the first bridge to be built across the Yangzi River in 1968. It was also the first double-decker, double-track highway and railway bridge designed and constructed by the Chinese without outside engineering assistance. It is 6,772 meters (22,212 ft) long and has a span of 160 m (525 ft) — it can take up to 15 minutes to cross during regular traffic periods.
