Train ticket Shanghai - Nanjing
by Sanneastrid
Hey!
Me and my friend will be in Shanghai in a little less than two weeks and around the second of January we want to travel from Shanghai to Nanjing by train. I've heard that you have to book train tickets two weeks in advance?
Does anyone have any experience with ordering these tickets online? I've found a couple of websites via seat61.com, but I'm not sure which one to pick.
Hope someone can help me, thanks in advance!

Around that time may be the holidays like Chinese New Year. Imagine 2 billion people in China and 140 million on the road to get home to celebrate. Yes, if you can, do book in advance. I usually go direct to the station and get my tickets early, but then during the holiday rush...you may have to stand. the trains are packed like Japan metro.Cheers and merryx-mas Tommy x

hi
the first day of the national holiday is the 29th of january 2011 so no need to worry about the crowds because of that however thats always a busy route. You can buy your ticket on the same if you go to the train station early in the morning as there are more than 100 daily trains from shanghai to nanjing.Go for "G" coded ones which are the fastest ones the price was around 150RMB(23USD) for a 2nd class seat."D" coded ones are fast are also fast and preferable if you want to save money (around 95RMB-15USD)the other trains are not convenient for the reason being slower for the same price. But avoid the "K" coded trains and take "T" coded ones which is little faster and with nicer cars if you have to buy one of these 2 because of no seats on the other services
enjoy China!

It is not necessary to book in advance. There are lots of trains between Shanghai and Nanjing. In most busy period time such as noon, the interval of trains is just several minutes. Buying ticket when you get to the station should be the best choice cause you donn't need to worry missing the train or waitting at station while wasting the time that you can spend in places that you are interested in.

Travel Tips for Nanjing
Packing List
by The_Rabbit
If possible travel light. A carry-on and one standard Pullman is what I would recommend. As with any travel: Secure all valuables and declare them at customs. Wear comfortable shoes if sightseeing. The climate is pretty comparable to the four seasons. Summers become exceptionally hot and humid. Bring all prescribed drugs you need from home. Their pharmacies I found to be quite crude. Get travelers insurance of course. Bring your stomach medicine, asprin and other over the counter drugs from home. You can pretty much find service for your camara, but do not rely on it. Not knowing the language can make an equipment run a bit confusing! Make sure you bring an electrical converter!
Xuanwu Lake
by chatterley
Xuanwu Lake is situated on the northern part of Nanjing. The name "xuanwu" refers to the black tortoise, and is a symbol of the direction "North" in Chinese Fengshui (the East is represented by "qinglong", the green dragon; the West by "baihu" the white tiger and the South is represented by "zhuque" the red phoenix).
The bank of the Lake has rows of Chinese willows, swaying softly in the wind.
The Dinglin Mountain Villa
by marsistanbul
Located 60 meters to the east of the Donglin Tomb, was built in the 1980s in commemoration of Wang Anshi,a famous politician and literati of the Northern Song Dynasty(960-1127).Small but ingeniosly arranged,it is a three-layered pseudo-classic building complex enclosed by a winding corridor.Embedded on the eastern, southern and western walls of the corridor are more than 70 poems by Wang Anshi in praise of the Zhongshan Mountain written in the style of master contemporary calligraphers..
