URGENT: Local guides needed

by hydronetta

Is there any possibility to have a local english speaking guide for Suzhou for 1 day trip (we're coming from Shanghai)? I have already bought a tour to China but I refused to take the trip to Suzhou through them as they take you only to Tiger Hill, a Silk factory and Hunble Administrator's Garden. Any names and e-mails are great help to come in touch. We can rent a taxi and with his/her help tour around

check one of these sites, there are many people advertising for personal guide.suzhou is just around the corner from shanghai so no big deal for them....
try www.thatssh.com (many guide ads on that one) or www.smartshanghai.com
you can put an ad too and ask for what exactly you are looking for and start the bidding....remember to shop around, it alway help but you shouldnt pay more than 300rmb for the day trip from Shanghai (car, petrol, toll etc included) and always pay the driver AT THE END, never in advance.

Humble Administrator's Garden

There are a number of gardens in Suzhou, but this is the largest one, and the only one we had the time to visit. It has World Heritage Status, and is very pleasant to stroll around and well laid out.

A Bustling Modern City!

"Don't speak a lick of Chinese? No worries!"

My mother lives in nearby Kunshan City so she goes to Suzhou often when feeling homesick for a more "Western" feel. While not every worker in the city speaks English, many of the shops in Suzhou most definitely cater to a foreign clientèle. English menus, Western prices, Western "hospitality", and most definitely prices for foreigners. Well, you get what you pay for!
