Dull but acceptable 4-star Hotel
I discovered upon my arrival in Suzhou that hotels here were rather expensive. As was the case when I arrived in Nanjing, I did not have a reservation for the three nights that intended on staying here. I thought that I would be able to find a reasonably priced hotel with ease. I was wrong. The first two hotels I checked out wanted something near Y1600 a night. I finally ended up at this place which was reasonably priced but well away from most of the city's attractions.
The New Century Hotel is a large cement block hotel that China has become infamous for. Well maintained and clean for sure but there is no character. Although I initially faulted the place for its location, it was near the Lingering Garden and a pleasant street mall.
Unique Quality: The hotel has two bars that are way overpriced. The hotel claims to serve Western food here but I could find any. I did have a good Chinese meal however. My room had satellite TV but oddly enough the only English speaking station feature Christian based programming mostly for children.
