Suzhou City
by limledi
We made a land trip to Suzhou from Shanghai with a rented van. It was such fun with 10 of us making the trip. It took us more than an hour to reach the place. Trip was pleasant and nice providing us wonderful views of the scenery. We were able to visit my cousin's work place in the export processing zone. Such a huge area. Also able to go to a very nice hotel with a beautiful lake at the back. The restaurant in Suzhou is delicious and very cheap. Lastly, we visited a temple there. Take a look at the pictures.
Tiger Hill

Tiger Hill is a hill and a temple and a tomb. It is where Suzhou's history come from. It is an important place for suzhou and the end of 10 miles Shangtang street. It is the tomb for the great king GouJian of Wu whose captial was Suzhou.
The place is full of legends and you should know the story before you go there. The old Wu kindom (Suzhou) and the old Yue kindom (Zhejiang) were emenies. Goujian is a very strong king and he beat Yue kindom badly. But Yue king sent a very beautiful woman (maybe the most beautiful women in history) to him and GouJian loved the woman so much and lost his interests in the kingdom. Finally, he was beaten by Yue king and got killed. Nevertheless, he is still considered the greatest king of Wu and the beautiful woman is still honored and admired by Suzhouness although she is the cause of the fallen of Wu kingdom.
Hu Qiu is most famous for its tower. The tower has a different shape to all the other Chinese towers. It is probably because the tower is thousand of years old. It is said that the great king burried his father under the tower. Since the king is regarded almost like the father of Suzhou, the tower is really the symbol of Suzhou. What's more interesting is that the tower is leaning just as Pizza tower in Italy which makes it more special.
Suzhou - Ancient city with modern outlook
by Ujamaflip
"City of over 2500 years"
Suzhou is a large city with a population of just under 6 million people. It is situated in the south of Jiangsu Province, in the middle of the Yangtze Delta. The city was created in 514BC, but wasn`t named Suzhou until 581AD, during the Sui dynasty.
I was lucky enough to travel to Suzhou with work. Whilst there I was well entertained by my fellow colleagues visiting a few of the many attractions located around the city. Generally the people are friendly and inviting.
"Real Chinese Life"
Suzhou really is a city of opposites, along side the ancient townships sit new skyscrapers. Famed for silk and pearls, these can still be bought at excellent prices from various outlets in the city.
In the main city Suzhou is overtaken by the thriving Chinese economy. New roads are being built at an amazing rate, with the city changing constantly. The town centre is always packed and has a high number of shops and restaurants to choose from.
"Oriental Venice"
Suzhou is full of canals, especially in the old villiage, Tong Li. The canals themselves are full of boats, a thriving network of activity.
