Can't tell ya: Accommodation for foreigners
There's a bit of hassle trying to find cheap accommodations in Wuxi.
In China, there are hotels/inns which are registered to accept foreign guests, while the other type does not. We found this the hard way in Wuxi.
We tried 7 days inn, jinjiang inn, motel 168, but they couldn't accommodate foreigners (it's either they don't like us, or they're telling the truth LOL.
3-5 star hotels shouldn't have problems accommodating foreigners as most of them would have had the license.
Nevertheless, our looks (chinese descent) saves us from the hassle, as we chanced upon a very nice person who assisted us in getting cheap rooms (RMB128 per night - single room - windowless) - prices as at May 2009. He didn't even wanted tips, as he worked in that hotel.
The price was not a rip off as they charge the same to other guests as well :)

Kaida Grand Hotel: 3-star Hotel at a Good Location
The Kaida Grand Hotel is situated right next to the Bus Terminal Station. It is also very near to shops and eateries eg. MacDonald's and Yonghe Dawang (for Soya Bean Drinks).
The room was of a decent size, and quite clean. The only complaint is that the room could be a tad brighter.

Wuxi IYH: Wuxi's One and Only YHA Hostel
Wuxi International Youth Hostel is wonderful, very friendly and has helpful staff. Singles are 90 (80) RMB (only 1 single room), doubles 55 (50) RMB per bed, triples 50 (45) RMB per bed, quintuples 45 (40) RMB. All rooms have shared washing facilities. The cubicle doors at the female bathroom are hard to open from the inside, so beware!

Kaida Grand Hotel: Welcome
Located near Wuxi bus & train station. It is a busy place and what you can hear is either the train or bus noises.

Tai Shan Hotel: Accross from the train station
For Y150 a night, the Tai Shan Hotel gives you a decent location (great if you want to be near the train station or bus station) and clean, well kept rooms with A/C and a clean bathroom. Being near the train station means you have to deal with sketchy people that hang around the area, but it is walking distance from a nice area of town with many restaurants and shoping centers. They would not bargain at this hotel, but they do have different rooms to fit different budgets. If I remember correctly they had a room that was cheaper than Y150 but there were none available when we were there.

Kaida Grand Hotel: A Convenient Hotel at Railway Station
Located at the side of Wuxi Railway Station, Kaida Grand Hotel is a three-star hotel. It is a landmark building at the railway station. There are 18 floors with total guest room of 155, including luxury & business suites.
Unique Quality: The rooms are equipped with CCTV & sattelite TV as well as internet broadband service. The hotel also offers facilities such as shopping centre, sauna, teahouse, gym, chess & poker room, beauty parlour, business centre & conference rooms.
If you miss your favourite fast food, you can find McDonald's outlet just next to the hotel. Extremely convenient for the hungry guests.
