Best Western Zhenjiang International Hotel: Four Star & Comfortable

Very comfortable for four stars, if only slightly dated but we would stay again. Staff were very good and our room was large enough for the two of us which was very clean and tidy. Not sure about the view??...lol, as our room was on the other side of the building over looking older Zhenjiang which does need some repais and maintenance.

We had complimentary coffee at their Echo Cafe on arrival which was very pleasant even though Rabbit just had to have a beer instead as he was very thirsty!....lmao. The breakfast buffet was more designed for the Chinese as we do not think too many Westerner's frequent here but Rabbit did find something to eat at the end and the three different breakfast sausages where most interesting...???? The great thing about this hotel was it is next to a little liquor store that sold cans of Tsingtao Beer for 3rmb instead of paying 70rmb in the hotel, how fantastic is that!!

Home Inn: Hotel chain in the city centre

Home Inns are fairly cheap mid-range, no-frills type chain of hotels found all over China and each city will have several branches dotted all over it. This one was the second of around six I stayed at throughout my stay in China and I liked them so much that I became a member which entitled me to a discount each time I checked-in by showing my membership card. The rooms are normally a very good size with bright coloured walls and yellow tiles in the bathroom. You get a TV, double bed, a water dispenser providing hot and cold water, a kettle with green tea and such like, like you would do in a basic discount hotel chain in the west. The rooms are very clean, especially the bathroom which normally have a nice modern walk-in shower. Staff are nice and speak English well but things can get busy at reception as these places are very popular with business people. This particular branch in Zhenjiang was very well located in the centre of the city, only a short distance from the train station. My single room cost Y169.

Best Western International: OK for most

I came to this city for a business trip, and my company recommended this place, where I stayed for 1 month in May 2009.

The rates are reasonable (about 420 RMB per night)

It is a full service hotel, but the rooms are rather old and dated. Matresses are thin and rather hard, carpets worn, everthing dated. Very little hot water in the shower.

The restaurant in the lobby has a buffet for breakfast and dinner, but the food is hit/miss whether it is fresh. It's passible, but that's about it.

Most of the staff speak very lttle english.

If your coming to Zhengjiang, this is a passible place, but don't expect western standards.
