Bus/Train to Dalian via Zhuhai, Zhongshan or Guangzhou

by myspices

Hi, I would appreciate it very much if any of the VTers can help me with the following :-
1) Is there a bus i can take from either Zhuhai, Zhongshan or Guangzhou to Dalian ?
2) If so, what's the timing and how long is the journey.
3) Any indicative fares so that i can work on my budget.

Time is not a constraint, money is.. so i would prefer to travel either by the bus or the train unless there's no alternative but to fly. Thanking you in advance.

No direct coach as the journey is too long.Try rail or look at the map of China n try connecting intercities by coach.

Thanks Francischris for quick response. Will check out the connections. Do you know if there's a bus/train to Beijing fr Zhuhai? I understand that there's one from Guangzhou. Thanks again.

Normally i take flights from Beijing to Dalian..However based on some information from friends, i suggest you to reach Beijing first. From Beijing, you can go to Dalian by train. For your information from Beijing to Dalian, i was told, that it take about 24hrs while flight takes about one hour.

It is too long a distanc to travel by bus so suggest you to take a train.

There are definitely no direct trains there. You can go either via Beijing or Shanghai.

Avoid the buses, they're horrible.

Hey folks, thanks so much for the invaluable information. Most likely will be going to GZ to catch a train to Beijing and then make my way to Dalian. Much thanks again!

Travel Tips for Dalian

Youhao Square

by socrates_07

Youhao Square or Friendship Square is located between Renmin Square and Zhongshan Square, which is the business center zone in Dalian.

In the night you will be impressed by the colourful light of the big, jewelly crystal ball. This ball is in the center of that square which is smaller than the other squares.

Anyway, if you are not too far way you should go for a walk to the Youhao Square. The best time: In the dark to see the beautiful light of the crystal ball.

Bus stops in Dalian

by muileng

Note that there may be a few bus stops along the same road with different bus services. So if you can’t find a bus at one bus stop, you can walk down to the next bus stop to check it out. Each bus stop has a sign like this one in the picture, showing the bus numbers and the routes taken. And you usually don’t have to flag a bus because the bus will stop at every bus stop since the bus stops are typically quite far apart, and will usually have passengers.

Literally translation will be "New Sea Square". This is a very big square with big pedestrian walkways. This is the largest square in Dalian. It is just behind the big Exhibition hall (best in China). There's even a bicycle rental stall.

"This 45,000 square meters square was completed in 1997 to celebrate the return of Hong Kong to China. The design of the square implies traditional Chinese culture. At the center of the square is a Huabiao (a decorative column symbolizing China), which is 19.97 meters in height and 1.997 meters in diameter, the largest of its kind in China, to commemorate the year 1997 when Hong Kong returned to China. The gigantic star-shaped square has an inner circle and an outer circle which are 199.9 meters and 239.9 in diameters respectively, representing Dalian's 100th anniversary in 1999 and its 500th in 2399. Along the central avenue there are dozens of stele lamps. South end of the central avenue is a group of sculpture which records the history of the city. A thousand footprints of Dalian's citizen are inscribed to imply that Dalian is moving forward. Look out for the smallest footprint (san chun jin lian).

At night, this place will be very brightly lit and is beautiful.
