Dalian is quite a distance from Guangzhou. There are many flights to Dalian that average (150-300 USD)from Guangzhou
book a flight unless you love trains (and it's about 2 days on the train). www.ctrip.com has good domestic flight deals.
those numbers are pretty accurate. the 600 train ticket is for a sleeper berth, you could sit for way less but prob not worth it

Large, modern buildings can be seen at the north end of Xinghai Square. This is the Dalian Xinghai Convention & Exhibition Center. All types of events are frequently held here in these large facilities, including many great exhibitions and expos. See their web site if you are interested.

The Bangchuidao (Bangchui Island) Scenic Area is located southeast of Dalian's city center. In a park-like setting, you will find beach and hills, and one can do biking and boating here as well as various beach recreations. This is a nice place to relax. From here you will see a small island off the coast called Bangchuidao, but I don't know if one can get on the island; only look at it and go around it by boat probably.
It's one of the biggest Zoos in the world. It's area is over 72 sq. km. It is situated in the mountines near by the seashore.. The Zoo is devided into 6 parts: herbivorous animals, lions and tigers,the pavilion of black àðàíãóòàíãîâ, monky's mountine, bear's park and ground of Asian elephant. Here you can see more then 300 spices of animals. Not far ago there was opened an botanical garden with a huge collection of tropical plants and big cactuses. Here you can try a safari on a comfortable bus.
The park is very big so your trip to it can take a day. Believe me you'll be very tired and don't forget to use before an sunprotective creame.
You know, I love animals... But I haven't seen happy eyes of animals being there. They seemed to be a little bit tired of all that guys (as I was) that make pics of them. I'm not sure I'm right and I want to believe that I was not right! The entrance costs 80 yuans
