I wanted to find Weiyuan village, but could not explain it, so I took a bus from the main bus station near the train station, to HUZHU (about 40 km from Xining).
You can stop at the entrace of the city, before getting to the center, and then follow the road on the left, pass the stone carvers, and the the direction of the mountains.
There, after a while (just try to get closer to the mountains), you will see an irrigation canal about 1 m wide, that you can follow in the direction of south, for some hours.
The canal is at the bottom of the mountains and is always about 500 m from the road back to Xining, so you can stop your walk anytime and catch a bus back to Xining. You will cross villages, meet farmers, and enjoy this quite and beautiful place... I think it might be wonderful during the summer.
At one point, you will see a Mosquee on the left, near the road (2 hours from the begining). On the right, there is a road leading to a village located at the top of a mountain. It does not seem very far, but very beautiful... I did not have time to visit it, but tell me if you do....
