Hi, I will be traveling to Beijing with my family (with 2 kids) in June this year. We intend to take up a tour package from a Beijing Tour Agency to Xi'an for a couple of days before returning to Beijing for the flight home. Could anyone pls advise on the number of days to reserve for the trip to Xi'an and back? Any recommended tour agency in Beijing? Thanks.
Hi, June has a nice weather to travel in China. You'd better in advance a month to book a tour from a travel agency. Because they need some time to prepare the tour for you, both in Beijing and Xi'an.
I also send a message to you, welcome to send back. :)
Why not add Shanghai to your tour programme, then you can take international flights back home. Although Shanghai do not have so many historical relics as Beijing and Xian, it is a lively modern Chinese city, with a lot of typical architectures since 1930's. It derserves your attention. Then you may need to spend eight or ten days in China.
A lot of travel website can process tour for foreigners, you can inquire them. Besides the website mentioned above, you can also consult www.travelchinaservice.com
Hi AngelFly. Do you know if there are 3 day 2 night type of package from Beijing to Xi'an either by train (soft sleeper) or air? If so, what's the approx. cost in RMB?
I always travel with my Minolta SLR camera with 2 lenses (1x 35/80 and 1x 75/300 zoom), a two times converter, a polariser for both lenses, a spare battery and 10 spare rolls of 400 asa film (36) with 1 loaded into the camera.
A sampling of local food is part ot the adventure but if your stomach is unsettled, you may just want something familiar. If so, there is a McD's near the Bell Tower, a Kenny Roger's chicken place in the underground shopping mall next to the tower, and a host of American fast food places (e.g. KFC) south on Nan Dajie. (And there were street banners leading the way too.)
Visited the Terracotta Soldiers/Warriors on our arrival day and it was oh so worth it. We took public transport to get there and it took approximately 1.5hours in a coach which was fun. The walk from the entry to Pit 1, 2 and 3 was over 20 minutes - this place is huge.
The Warriors were FANTASTIC - a must see - hence the reason why you must visit Xi'an - you could almost do it in one day with an organised tour but we chose to spend two days and one night. The history of this amazing find is incredible - just a humble farmer digging crops - or so they say. So a huge hangar type frame has been built to surround this discovery and digging is still in progress. Words cannot explain this impressive sight.
Opening hours 08:00 to 18:00 entrance fee was 90rmb p/p = $16 – allow 3 hours.
Public Transport - Tourist Bus 5 (306) - 14 yuans per person - from the East Square of Xian Railway Station
Xian has a sizeable Muslim population as Muslim restaurants can be seen. Historically, Xian has been the end of the Silk Road where Muslim traders on caravans will reach this gateway to Cathay (China).
This is one of the oldest, largest and best preserved mosque in China. Unlike other mosques, this mosque has Chinese architecture with Chinese as well as Arabic inscriptions.
It is open to tourists between 8a.m. to 7:30 p.m. But the main prayer hall is for Muslims only.
It was built by Master Xuan Zang around 652 AD during the Tang Dynastyafter he had travelled to India via the Silk Road. It was at this temple that he translated the Buddhist scriptures he had obtained in India into Chinese.
The temple itself contains a Tang Dynasty buildings chart and traces the monk’s journey through India and Burma. The pagoda has been reconstructed many times over the centuries. Today it is a 7 storeyed, 64 metre structure with four arched doors in each direction of every storey.
There are stairs leading up to the top floor and visitors can have a bird’s eye view of the whole city.
Tickets are 20 Yuan with another 20 Yuan to climb up the pagoda.
