We stayed at the Bell Hotel which we felt was a perfect location for the major sites in Xian. We hired a guide through the hotel. Have a look at our page for the details.

My pet recommendation would be for Shaanxi Wenyuan Hotel, great location right on Bell Tower square and Muslim Quarter.
Ask John (http://www.xi-an.net/John'shts/index.asp) about guides in Xi'an.

I would stay at the new Howard Johnson Hotel not far from the city wall. Enjoy!

I stayed at the Prince International Hotel in Xian a few weeks ago and it was an excellent 4* that was really more of a 5* hotel. Stay in a suite. Prices just a bit about a standard room and the suites are beautifully done and very roomy.

I stayed at the Diamond International hotel which is near the city walls. 4 star and very spacious (deluxe room). Has 2 king sized beds.

1+1 Bar on Dong Da Jie is the most famous one.
Tang Dynasty Show (Tangyuegong) on Zhang An Lu gives nice Chinese Tang musical and dancing performance.
Defuxiang is a street flanked by cafes. Dress formal if you will like to enjoy Tang Dynasty Show.
Terra cotta Warriers
by easterntrekker
We visited during perhaps the busiest time of the year , being National Day but even though there were so many people streaming through the gates...the area is so massive , viewing them was not a problem. Its hard to imagine how unbelievable this site really is .
There in rows sedately standing are life sized recreations of the Qin Shi Huang's army.
Somehow they area seems quiet and you feel the urge to whisper...it is so overwhelming! We are told that over 700,000 men were drafted to work on this project.
Mar - Nov 8AM-5PM $12.00
English speaking guides are available for $15.00
Warriers faces
by easterntrekker
The faces of the Terra Cotta Soldiers are hand carved , with very distinct detail . Not only can we see young and old men but also various ethnic differences like different hairstyles and headdresses. The army was drawn from many parts of the vast Empite of Qin Shi Huang.
Han Yangling Museum
by geekgrrl
Hanyangling is the joint tomb of Emperor Liu Qi (188 BC- 141 BC) and his Empress who died in 126BC. 40,000 burial objects, including cavalrymen, infantrymen, painted nude pottery figurines, utensils, chariots, weapons, and a large number of pottery animals have been unearthed here much like at the Terracotta Warriors Museum, but these were much smaller. The figures were about 18" high, and they included women warriors. These warriors were nude because they had originally been dressed in real clothes. We could see the empress's tomb from the museum.
Chenghuang Temple (City God Temple)
by Willettsworld
This Taoist temple is located down an alleyway past some shops, off Xi Dajie, not far from the Great Mosque. Its history dates back to 1433 and enthrones the city god, the guardian of Xian; he’s also the controller of everything, whether that’s natural disasters, epidemic outbreaks, economic success, or whether someone is born a boy or a girl. But the city god – who was a general named Jixin in his human life, when he sacrificed his life to save that of his Emperor Lu Bang – couldn’t stop the Red Guards in 1966, who stormed the temple and wrecked all religious icons, and then turned the temple into a flea market. Today, the temple is still in need of some urgent repair and has grass growing out of its roof and its woodwork needs a lick of paint.
Open: 6am-6pm. Admission: Free.
