Chengdu to Xi-an

by eagles_creek

Hello there,

Anybody has any idea how much is the train ticket from Chengdu to Xi-an and how long is the journey?

What time do they normally leave?

Advanced booking or purchase required?

Thank you very much.

Yours sincerely,
Sebastian.

Hi Sebastian,
You know Xian is a big hub for train network in China. There are 10 dialy trians operating from Chendu to Xian.
1. one leave in the a.m others all in p.m or late night.
2. The journey takes about 16/17 hours
3. The hard sleeper ticket cost about RMB113 for normal train and RMB195 for Aircon.

Normally 3 days before to do advanced bkg and purchase is quite enough!

just got off it this morning - train K166. Soft sleeper is 262rmb for upper and 274 for lower. train leaves at 4.08pm from chengdu and arrives Xi'an 8.22am. Touts are a real pain at the station. pre book a hoteland when you come out head straight for the road and turn left for taxi rank. skip the buses

The representation of local food- bread in soup

by jasmine_ding about Tong Sheng Xiang

Xi’an Tong Sheng Xiang Restaurant was built in 1920, located at the bell tower and drum tower square. It is famous for its bread in mutton or beef soup.

Before receiving the soup the customer must break a 5 inch disk of bread into very small pieces ,as small as of soys, and place the broken bread into the bowl. Otherwise it will make the chef angry, and all the waiters and local people will try to teach you the right way of breaking the bread. The waitress then takes the bowl to the chef and he adds the soup to the broken bread. The process of breaking the bread may take up to 15 ~30 minutes, so be patient and enjoy the company your with.

Please eat some sweetened garlic which is offered with the chipped bread in mutton or beef soup. Chipped bread in mutton or beef soup

Bell and Drum Towers

by Green_Frog

If you choose not to visit these attractions during the day - which we didn't have time to do - you must go for a walk and view these amazing buildings at night.

Bell Tower – cost to enter - CNY 40 for Bell Tower and Drum Tower – free if from outside?? Visit this day and night – beautifully lit up.

Terracotta Warriors

by nattybabe

The Terracotta Warriors are located around an hour outside of Xi-an. You are able to drive right up to the gate but during busy periods you may have to walk up to 1km to reach the front gate.

There are 3 pits (plus one currently under construction) with pit 2 the largest and containing the most intact warriors.

If you are going with a tour you will probably start with a visit to the gift shop (where the original farmer signs books) and you see a 20 minute movie explaining the history behind the warriors. You then move into the main pit (2) and then pits 1 and 3 which contain mainly destoryed warriors as well as examples of reconstructed warriors in glass cases.

You will most likely complete your visit with a look at the museum. The museum is interesting and has some amazing bronze chariots and ancient relics and even though it may be hard to see some of these things through the crowds, it's worth a look.

The warriors are open 8am - 6pm and admission ranges from Y65 - Y90 depending on the season.

You will need at least 3 hours to see everything properly.
