I was in China for 15 days. We only were in Xi'an for two. NOT ENOUGH......There is more to see here than most places.
Places I saw and recommend Goose Pagoda, Tang Dynasty Show (this was the best evening entertainment of the whole trip--there is a cocktail show that is less expensive than going for dinner), City wall and moat, south gate, drum tower, bell tower, new library, Terra Cotta Army, BRONZE CHARIOTS.
We stayed at the Xian Garden Hotel. This also was our best hotel and BEST Breakfast in China........The Xian Garden is a Japanese Hotel built around a Japanese garden and pond. There is live chamber music in the lobby in the evening. The grounds are exceptional, the rooms large, clean, pleasant, each with a balcony overlooking the garden. The Japanese, Chinese, American breakfast--we thought we had died and gone to heaven.
Xi'an is an agricultural area. They grow corn, lots of fresh fruits. Driving from the city to the Terra cotta army and Qin emperor's tomb you see many walled family compounds with crops drying and farmers in the fields.

Anybody used Emma's Tours?
by PanAsianPirate
Hi, I am going to stop by Xi'an for a day on my way to Shanghai. My friend, who had previously traveled there, recommended a day tour from Emma's Tours (www.emmastours.com), though he took it a few years ago. Has anybody else taken a tour from her? Experiences? Or do you have a different company that would be good for a quickie one day tour? Any help would be great, thanks!

No - never needed it.
But if your friend is a person you trust why not accept his recommendation? It seems this business has not been established more than about five years so presumably your friend's experience cannot be too out of date.

I reviewd her website, and the most important thing is that she is licenced. I would follow my friend's recommendation on this.
On the other hand, a day tour or as you say a "quickie tour" in Xian is just not nearly enough. The Terra Cotta warriors alone will need time. However it appears that Emma has included the City Walls, the Emperor's Tomb, and the Muslim Quarter as well, and if you only have a day, I'd say, go ahead.
Although my China pages are a bit unfinished, here is a bit of insight into the Terra Cottas.....have fun.

When will you arrive in Xi'an? If possible, please prepare thick clothes as it's colder here!
As you only stay one day here, I don't think it's necessary to get more help from this, but you can pay a visit to the city center as the Bell Tower or Drum Towner and the city wall are all found easily and one day is even not enough for such sights.
OK, have a nice time!
