Mercure is part of the complex of 4 Accor Hotels on Renmin Square. It is a 4-star hotel, but because it belongs to the complex it has more facilities than a normal 4-star hotel. For instance, you have the choice out of 4 different restaurants. Through a friend of my wife we got an upgrade to a suite, which was really nice of course. We totally had no complaints; everything was as it’s supposed to be. Except, we had a peek in the standard rooms as we passed by, and they seemed quite small.
Our experience started off bad as it took forever to find our hotel. Turns out there are 2 Mercures kiddy-corner to each other behind the Sofitel, one called the "Grand Mercure" and the other just the "Mercure". We mistakenly went to the Grand Mercure and after queuing for 20 minutes, were eventually told that our reservation was at the other one. Once we eventually checked in, we were first given a room where the air conditioning didn't work (wouldn't turn on at all). We complained and were moved to a room on the third floor which was very spacious (but by the looks of the other rooms, we were lucky to get the spacious room because we needed three beds, as the other rooms looked to be on the smaller side). The room itself was clean and comfortable, though was showing its age in many areas. It was a bit noisy as I was woken up to the traffic noise from the street in the morning (I am a light sleeper). The breakfast was awesome with a large selection of Chinese and Western hot and cold dishes. Hotel staff were friendly and the rooms were clean, so we would stay again.
