Qin shi Huangdi (Emperor Qin's Tomb)
by ahoerner
Probably you will visit this place as included in some tour around the city or to the Terracota army as main attraction.
Chinese tombs are constructed hills where the emperors were then buried with their belongings.
I really do not recommend that... unless you have a really good tourist guide.
However you can take a picture with some "living" terracotta warrior, i.e. Qin emperor's soldier...
Friendship Restaurant at Terracotta Museum
by geekgrrl about Friendship Restaurant at Terracotta Museum
Another Friendship Restaurant. It is a huge restaurant. There was a buffet for the cold Chinese appetizers ? potato salad [I don't understand potato salad on a Chinese buffet], cucumbers, red cabbage. Then hot dishes were brought to the table: steamed cauliflower, pork and small bamboo shoots, bean curd with celery, egg and onion, chicken and celery.
This meal was included in our tour, so I am not sure how much it cost, but it couldn't have been too expensive. The best item was the noodle soup stand right next to our table. They were making the noodles fresh right there with lots of stretching and banging of the noodles and then dumping them in the soup broth. See a photo of this in my travelogs. The noise attracted lots of the diners in this huge dining room, so the line was usually long. When it got short, I got some, and it was excellent. They also had a jar of snake wine on display. It looked nasty with the dead snake in the jar.
Spend some time in the mosque
by trvlrtom
The ancient mosque deserves a good amount of time. The series of old buildings and gardens are all unique, with many interesting details that can go unoticed if you rush by. The architecture is an unusual blend of Chinese and Islamic that was built over several centuries. You won't be disappointed here.
The Terracotta Army - Pitt 1
by stevemt
This was the pit where the well that was being dug by the farmers was sited. This is where it all happened.
This pit is the largest and is huge.
You see so much here. The army, you generally see experts excavation as well, and the army hospital is here.
Only 1 figure of the 8000 odd on display was unearthed intact. All the others were in millions of pieces.
The hospital is where the pieces are put back together.
When the horses were made, they were made with a hole in their side. This is to allow the escape of gasses when being fired. The people were made with detachable heads which allowed this.
When the figures were first made, they were brightly painted. This was discovered on excavation, but rapidly the paint oxidized and the color disappeared. Only a few have any remnants of the color on them.
A halt to excavation has been called until a method for preserving the color has been found
Emperor Quin's funeral mound
by stevemt
This funeral mound has been untouched, and apparently not looted according to the information I was given.
The site is close to the Terracotta Army museum location. There is a viewing platform on the side of the road.
