Xian attraction after the earthquake

by kkli

I heard that some of the attractions in Xian are damaged by the earthquake. Does anybody know whether they are still open to public?

Travel Tips for Xi'an

Hui Minority

by nepalgoods

Xian has been a city of traders along the silk road. Many Muslims came to Xian with their karawanes. Now you can still find many Chinese Muslims, which are called Hui. They have mosques and their special food. Lots of noodleshops and Shashliki stalls.

Three ways to Huashan Mountain

by jasmine_ding

From Xi'an

1.Get on public bus No.307 on Railway Station Square, paying for the ticket after getting on the bus. Once a day in the morning, around 8:00, please check the timetable because I'm not sure if it changes.

2. Take train from Railway Station, you have many choices.

From Lintong (After you finish visiting the Terracotta Army)

3.If you finish visiting the Terracotta Army, you can contiune to head to Huashan Mountain. From 10 am to 10 pm, there are 14 train via Lintong to Huangshang Mountain. The price is 8~16 yuan, and it just takes you within 1.5 hours to get there.

How to get there...

by DSwede

OK, in the 100-some reviews, I did not see one person give a definitive answer on how to get to the Terracotta Warriors/Hauqing Pools.

First way, for those of you who want a bit of comfort and who do not care about a few extra dollars... get a private car from your hotel or travel guide. or barter for a taxi.

For those with a bit less funds and a bit more adventure, you can hop on the Green bus at the Bell Tower.

In my opinion, the most fun and for those on a limited budget, the most economical, is to take bus 306 (sometimes listed with a second bus line as 306(5)), that takes off from the south side of the square opposite the train station. (~11Y one-way, about 40 minutes). Bus operates 7am ~7pm, with intervals about 15 minutes.

The third option also allows you to take your time, with no prearranged time to come back, simply jump on the public bus where you got off when ever you are done.

Two Towers

by bhemak

The Bell Tower is in the middle of the main roundabout. Inside are a few bells (as one would expect) and not much else. The main reason to go inside is for the view. You can see all four main gates from here, and all sorts of traffic.

The Drum Tower mostly has a good view of the Bell Tower. Beyond that it has some information about the world largest drum, but doesn't say where it is.

You're going to keep circling around this thing the whole time you're in Xi'an, you might as well go in.

Big Goose Pagota

by FreeCloud

With a courtyard museum designated to/memorizing the Tang Dynasty monk Xuan Zhuang (?)'s trip to ancient 'India' bringing back the Buddhist scripts.

Climbing up to the tower for a good view, but only when in a clear day (should see the south city wall gate). Xi An is very polluted, and seemed to be always hazy for the 4 days we were there. Thus, we did not see far from top of the tower.

Much more crowded than the Small Goose Pagota.
