Tang Dynasty show by taxi
by Hagar99
We're staying at the Gaosu Shenzhou Hotel as part of a tour. How far is it to the Tang Dynasty show, would we need a taxi, and about how much would it cost. Are the taxi's running after the show so we can get back to our hotel?
I believe there are two places to enjoy Tang Dynasty show, One is in Shaanxi Grand opera house, the other one is in Tangyuegong, which would be our best choice from where we are staying?

Travel Tips for Xi'an
Wild Goose Great Pagoda
by GUYON
visit the Wild Goose Great Pagoda.
And do not miss the gardens (8AM to 6 PM) Once upon a time, a wise Emperor sent a monk (the ancestor of the VTbackpackers), Xuanzang, to search in India some Sutras of the Buddhist religion.
He traveled for 20 years (what a vacation !) and came back home with his bag full of religious texts and his head full of souvenirs.
When somebody told him how did he do to find the good direction, he answered : 'I followed the wild gooses flights'.

We took what seemed like an eternity to get to Xi'an from Beijing (on train).
By foot in Old Xi'an (our hotel was on the border).
If you need to get somewhere in a hurry, take a cab.
We took a bus to the Terracotta Warrior Soldiers.
A real city Wall!
by bhemak
Many Chinese cities have city walls. While they may have had them hundred or a thousand years ago, what you see was built in the last twenty years for tourists. And they look obviously new. It's crappy.
But, Xi'an's walls are mostly really old (although a few parts are being rebuilt). The walls have moss, scratches, weathering, and broken parts. It is much more photogenic and interesting.
Of course you can just look at the walls for free if you like. You can also go on them (one of the cheaper sites in town at 10 RMB). From here you can get a view, sometimes of great historic sites, sometimes of construction and traffic. There are kiosks selling items on the wall. You rent a bike on the wall or take electric cart around. There are a few small museum / tourist shops sites as well. A good value as you could spend a day walking around a good portion of the city if you like or just a few minutes to see the view.

You must see the terracotta warriors. As much as you might have seen pictures or heard of them their is no way you can imagine how large this is or how many soldiers there are. They are still finding more and covering them back up until they have the money and facilities to do these right.
The size and the individuality of each soldier I wouldnt have believed until I saw them myself.By the way pictures are allowed, I had heard that the guards wouldnt allow them to be taken. Not true, but the light is not good unless you have a B setting on an SLR. So I would just buy one of the books . Not too much money.
Terracotta Warriors
by kentishgirl
Just like the Great Wall is to Beijing, the Terracotta Warriors are to Xi'an. They're not located inside the city and I was told that it was troublesome to take the bus (not direct etc etc). We booked cheap budget tour from our hostel and spent the day first at the Lintong Museum and then at the Warriors.
This is a must see site in my opinion. Make sure that you get a map when you arrive and then you can see the museum and the different dig sites. The warriors are in the sites they were found in, some look quite new and other have been put back together.
I think the last excavation site on the map was the best; all of the sites are covered and dark - it's quite hard to get a fab photo of them in this case. You obviously can't touch them and they are enclosed - you view from a distance.
