Visit the Banpo Village!...
by asantetravel
Visit the Banpo Village! Walking into the grounds you first notice a statue/fountain of a woman pouring water – noting that this village was a matriarchal society! Basically it is the site an ancient village. The most interesting things I remember is the children?fs burial jars, which had large holes in then. After a child?fs death the family would put the child in one of these jars and place it near the home. They also had different positions related to how the villages died: someone who died of old age was placed face-up, a person who died of disease was placed face down, someone who had a disability was placed in a flexed position, and people who died together were buried together. The village really reminded me of Native American camp. Near the entrance to the museum was a table with vendors selling the Banpo Rezan. It looks like an egg, is made of the famous Banpo pottery, and sounds a little like the Japanese shakuhachi (flute). The sellers did a beautiful rendition of ?gMy Heart will Go On?h, and a bought a CD (note: you can bargain here and get the instrument for about the same price as the CD, 70yuan!).
Xi'an Xianyang International Airport
by Blatherwick
Xi'an Xianyang International Airport covers 500 hectares and is the largest airport in China's northwest. The airport was the hub for China Northwest Airlines until the company was merged into China Eastern Airlines in 2002. Currently, the airport connects to 79 other cities domestically and internationally. Most people use taxicabs or the airport bus to reach town from the airport however I made some friends with some Chinese on the plane and got a ride into town.
Drum Tower
by kentishgirl
There are two visible towers inside the city walls of Xi'an. The Drum Tower is great to walk around and inside. There's a museum inside too (I hope I'm not confusing this with the Bell Tower :-) and of course all of the drums to see at the base of the tower.
The fee is minimal to enter and it's worth it. The architecture alone on the tower is amazing.
The Big Wild Goose Pagoda under the moonlight
by jasmine_ding
The Big Wild Goose Pagoda is located in south of Xi'an. It's convenient to visit it, by taxi or by bus.
It was set up in Tang Dynasty, about 1300 years ago. Now it is the symbol of my city, Xi'an, you can find it from postcards. Besides, it's also the famous building in the Buddhist religion.
Do you want to know its history? You know, there are four classical literatures in ancient China. One of it is Go West. One of the roles of it is a monk named Xuanzang. Realistically, it took Xuanzang 17 years to bring back over a thousand volumes of Buddhist materials from India to Xi'an, the capital of China in that time. The emperor ordered to establish a temple and a pagoda for him to store the Buddhist materials. The temple is Daci'en Temple, and the pagoda is the Big Wild Goose Pagoda.
On the North Square of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, there is the greatest fountain in Asia. Enjoying it in summer night is good.
If someone wants to know about the real soul of this ancient city, the best choice is visiting the Pagoda under moonlight. I've seen it several times, and every time I'm affected. The yellow moon, the ancient pagoda......
And, if you visit it in the day, walk around the Square, you will see interesting people practicing drawing and calligraphy.
360º Movie
by solopes
Well done, this explanatory film, explaining the construction of the statues and their destruction by the mongols.
The synthesis is perfect, and we really feel in the middle of the action.
Twenty minutes that you shouldn't miss.
