Xi'an to Guilin flights

by jhunu

How much advance booking is required to obtain 2 tickets for flight from Xi'an to Guilin and what is likely cost? I am looking to travel end of November and will only be in Xi'an for 3 nights. Is it necessary to book in advance and are discount tickets available?

Buy the tickets as soon as you arrive in Xi'an. Try calling John at 86-13891822246; he's a good ticket agent which my friend teaching in Xi'an uses consistently.

Hey, Jhunu,
I am Serena in Guilin now, I can book the tickes for you .
After you arrive in Xi'an, you can call me or email me.
then I would buy the ticket.
Because it is the electronic tickets. so all you need to do is to give me your passport number and your name, that is enough, I can buy the tickets for you and the meet you in Guilin airport.

Travel Tips for Xi'an

Packing List

by zubric

If catching the train into or out of Xian it is highly recommended that you pack some toilet paper, as this little essential is not always available, and when it is, is usually of the grade 2 sandpaper variety.

Authentic XinJiang food

saw this restaurant on Discovery Travel (Megan) and vowed to visit it for its absolutely delicious 'melt in the mouth' mutton dumplings surprisingly, the sweet dessert with the dried fruit and nuts was a good ending to the dumpling meal.

Walk along the top of the city wall

by mikelisaanna

Xian has the best intact city wall of any city in China. It is over 10 meters high and surrounds the old part of the city, with a total length of approximately 14 kilometers. The wall is open to visitors, with steps providing access from a handful of points around the city. We accessed the wall from the South Gate, which has a well-preserved guard tower with good views of the city from its top floor (you have to pass through a few souvenir shops to get to the view).

Not only is the Xi'an city wall intact, but so are its guard towers, which rise from the top of the wall every 1/2 km or so. The moat outside the wall is also intact. At night, the wall is lit up very attractively, with lights along its top edge.

Walk on the walls

by ahoerner

The city walls are impressive... huge structures built on the 14th century just call you to visit them.

Take the opportunity to climb it up and simply walk, having an overview of the city. You can take a beautiful picture of the Bell Tower there...

Depending on the amount of chinese tourists, you may be requested to take some pictures with them... (hehehe)...

Drum Tower

by Willettsworld

The Drum Tower is located northwest of the Bell Tower, across the Bell Tower Square. Both of them are called the 'sister buildings' or 'morning bell and dark drum'. In ancient China, especially from the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368), the drums were used to signal the running of time and on occasion were used as an alarm in emergency situations.

The Drum Tower was initially built in 1380 during the reign of Emperor Hongwu of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), and was renovated twice in 1699 and 1740. It is a two-storied post and panel structure, 34 meters (about 112 feet) high and 52.6 meters (about 172 feet) long from east to west as well as 38 meters (about 124 feet) wide from north to south. The drum tower is surrounded by 24 drums along the north and south walls which represent the 24 solar terms of the weather calendar. Inside the Drum Tower there is also a drum museum, where a variety of drums are on display, some of which can be dated back thousands of years. There is a drum show performed here every day.

Open: 8am-10pm. Admission: RMB40 (which also includes the Bell Tower).
