Xian to Shanghai

by trigger48

I want to book my train ticket from Xian to Shanghai from England but China tripadvisor says you have to also book a xian tour with them The only other site I know is china-train-ticket and they are quite a bit more expensive. I want to leave Xian in the evening of the 28th August. Any advice please.

You can ask any hotel in Xi'an to book train ticket for you. The train is T137/140, departs from Xi'an at 18:44pm and arrive Shanghai at 11:13am.
The time may change by August since a train speed lift is scheduled at April if I remember correctly.

That's nonsense. Save your money and ask your (a) hostel/hotel to help you with the booking instead.

it's better to pay your ticket in advance.

Travel Tips for Xi'an

Travel Lite

by walterwu

Minimal at best. Can be purchase at North Main Street between 10-30RMB. Can be purchased cheaply at North Main Street (of Bell Tower). Leave most at home if you intent to travel light. Toilets are decent and not as bad. Tissue paper or toilet paper should be an essential item to bring along. Digital Camera and/or Camcorder

Da Fa Chang Hotel

by Audrey118 about Da Fa Chang Hotel

very famous for their dumpling served in bamboo baskets. savoury for starters and sweets ones as well. it is quite amusing when the waitress sings your fortune as they spooned the balls balls - they will sing humourously
one for good trip
two for double happiness (in marriage sense)
three six and nine are for long life
and four - wish you all the best
five for plenty of money
seven for luck
eight for wealth

Bell Tower

by stevemt

The Drum tower in the center of Xian, is one of the many historic monuments in Xian

There is a cost to enter, (not that great) and it is certainly worth a visit.

There is a collection of Quin Chime Bells housed here which are played during the day at intervals.

The tower itself is very interesting and you can get some great views from the top.

Old/New Fashion Beauty Salon

The spinning pattern of blue-red-yellow makes me recall of those old time barber shop in Malaysia when I am still a kid.

Well, this shop is supposed to be modern hair dressing outlet, but the commercial packaging for the shop somehow quite old fashion and catchy. I like it!!

Muslim Quarter

by mke1963

Xian's old Muslim quarter now covers a fraction of the area it once did, but it is a strong and thriving area of narrow streets, markets and shops to the north and north-west of the Drum Tower, which is the best access point.
Many of the most atmospheric streets are along little alleyways, and this is an area for just wandering around.
The street food here is good, as with all Muslim areas, and along with the vast array of tourist goods on sale, there are a lot of interesting ordinary shops and stalls. Kids play on the streets, people sit outdoors for much of the summer, living their lives out in the open, and there is the constant smell of cooking food, vegetables and "life". This is a busy, noisy, friendly place.
