Xian is near the terracotta warriors. Apparently absolutely mindblowing.

Environmentally, the city is very smoggy. Get used to not being able to see any blue sky...

sorry i cant help you further. enjoy yourself.

Travel Tips for Xi'an

A signed book !!

by easterntrekker about Terra Cotta Warrior Site

We had a chance to buy a copy of the book about the Terracotta Warriors signed the local farmer who discovered them in 1974 while digging a well.

He has become a well-renowned figure, often appearing at the site for book-signing . WE were told he was only givn a couple of dollars from the government for his discovery but he seems to be enjoying his fame , at least.

Noodle and bread with special taste-highly praised

by jasmine_ding about Yong Ming Qishan Mian

It's not a big restaurant, but it offers some special local food. Some have a long history and interesting stories. For example, Qishan/ Saozi noodle was used to encourage brave soldiers by a king of 2500 years ago. But now they are favourite food to local people and many travellers. Sometimes you have to wait for a table, but try them. At least you will be satisfied with one of them. No more than 15 RMB.

Qishan/Saozi noodle is sour and spicy. Only skilled chef can make it. The noodle is transparent.

Qishan/Saozi Roujiamo, unlike the Roujiamo, it's tasted less oily, but sour.

Cold noodle (Gan mian pi ) and Vinegar noodle (Cu Fen) is cold, refreshing and smooth, with the taste of sour and spicy. The material is flour, though you couldn't gress from their appearance, but the process is different. Qishan/Saozi noodle
Qishan/Saozi roujiamo
select one from Cold noodle (Gan mian pi ) and Vinegar noodle (Cu Fen)
Glutinous rice dumpling with honey
No one understands English, but you can show waitresses pics, then order.

The Terracotta Army

by Luchonda

A must to visit in Xian ! Hundreds - maybe thousand warriors were set up to protect the Emperor Qin Shi !
In 1974 farmers found this mausoleum .
It became world news and maybe the greatest discovery of the last century.
More than 700,000 workers were employed to construct the mausoleum and the work took 36 years
For many of them - it became their proper
grave.

Provincial History Museum

by solopes

The modern museum of Xi’an covers from the prehistory to period of the terracotta warriors. The skull of the man of Beijing is the starting point for a reasonable collection, with some beautiful bronzes.
