Flight into Xi'an that is not domestic

by kzapanta

There are a lot of great domestic flights around China and into Xi'an. But I cannot find or even get to a discount website that shows arrival flights from Int. origins. (expedia and others say the only way from Thailand or Singapore is by 3 flights and costing the cheapest $500) I need to depart from a Southeast Asian country and arrive to Xi'an. Please help if you know a site that shows all departure and ARRIVAL into XIY.

Bangkok Air is the only discount airline I see that is direct but has 1 service a week and don't you know it, there is no way for me to make that. =) Why does it seem only a domestic incoming into Xi'an when I know there should be lots of Asian flights coming in. Also, most airports has easily accesible data of all flights but not Xi'an?

Thanks a bunch.

No offence, but it would be nice if you didn't sound so whiney. :)
The information that you're looking for is actually readily available on Xi'an airport's website -- but I guess you don't read Chinese?
The only South-East Asian airport that has direct flights to Xi'an would be Bangkok. Don't bother with Singapore unless you don't mind transiting via Shanghai -- trust me, I know this route well.
China Eastern MU282 (0330--0730) flies on Wed/Sun; Bangkok Air PG831 (0325--0700) flies on Tue/Sat.

City buses

by bhemak

The buses go most everywhere in Xi'an and are regular. That's the good news. The news is they are the most crowded I have ever seen in my life. With the traffic in town it can be very tiring standing for a long time. If you take a taxi you won't get there much quicker, you'll just pay more and be more comfortable.

Relaxing

by Museeuw

We came here in September 2004. It was really relaxing to spend some time here after having visited the terracotta warriors. It's a really calm and beautiful place, and after walking around for about 45 minutes, we arranged to take a nice bath (I don't remember how much they charged, but it was cheap). Ideal after walking around the whole day.

An army of clay...or mud...or something...

by Limclarence

This is of course a must-see when you are in Xian. Thousands and thousands of mud warriors and horses and carriages destroyed by Xi Chu Ba Wang and found by a peasant digging for underground water...what can be more spectacular than this? Check out the story yourself, 'cos I dun wanna spoil it :) The man who found these relics is still alive, and if you buy the book, he will sign it for you. If you understand chinese, be sure to hire a good guide to explain all the details to you as he/she brings you around the enclosed and open-air musuem.

City Walls in Xi'an

by kentishgirl

One of very few walled cities left in China today, Xi'an is a blend of old and new. Our hostel was located just inside the city walls and so we saw them each and everyday. You can follow a walk around them. At the least they are a landmark in the city and the different gates are common when receiving directions.
