Maoling: Tourist bus line from Yuxiangmen long-distance bus station.
I think there's a tourist line to Qianling.
Zhaoling: Take a long-distance bus to Liquan then change to one going to Beitun.

Travel Tips for Xi'an

History Museum

by GUYON

Visit the History Museum of Shaanzi - Xiaozhai - A very interesting museum presenting the history of China since 6000 BC with a hall per period.
The comments are also in English (in French ? you dream!).
Foresee a rather long stay : the History of China is long, long, long. Open : 9:00AM to 5:30 PM. On the photo : a copy of a chariot which was with the Terra Cotta Army.

Taxi's were reasonable

by albaaust

We actually found the taxis quite reasonable in Xi’an. Every one used a meter and they were very polite. I have included a scanned copy of a meter taxi receipt so you can see what they show. Note: get on; get off, unit price and mileage. Taxi fares: 10 Yuan Theatre to Bell Hotel
12 Yuan Bell Hotel to train station

Terracotta Warriors

by Mez77

These terracotta warriors are another 'Must See' in China. I was flabbergasted at the sheer size of the excavation. I had heard it was impressive, but it's one of those things that must be seen to be believed.

The introductory surround sight-and-sound movie was an excellent introduction. Even though it was in Chinese, you could get the gist of how the terracotta warriors came into being.

Our local guide mentioned that some Chinese people don't think much of the warriors. An Old man was actually furous at his grandchildren for bringing him to see childish pottery. But for me, coming from a country with nothing like this, I was impressed.

Tip: When you are leaving the grounds, spread your group out and surge through the line of people selling cheap replicas of TCWs. Some of you may have one of the salepeople attach themselves to you, but for the most part, the divide and conquer theory seemed to work well.

Big Muslim Mosque

by FreeCloud

Great architecture, nice Chinese-Muslim combined styles.

If you are a muslim, you may be allowed to participate in their prayer mass (?), the praying times were stated at the Big Praying Hall (not for general visitors). When it is the time, a person will use an electronic loudspeaker to announce the time, everyone in the complex rushes out of the bath room (they have to take a bath before entering the big praying hall) and walks swiftly to the hall.

Pit 3

by solopes

We enter pit 1, the larger, and get immediately the notion of the huge size of the archaeological site. But they alert us that only a small part is dug, and that the main open area is pit 3. Why?

Because it is the headquarters. Generals, nobles and other important people seem to be represented there. Well, maybe historically that is important, but for the general visitor like us nothing beats the impact of the immense pit 1.
