Economic option

This hotel is a bit far (20min walk) from the city center (Bell Tower). But is very economic. It is clean, safe and adequately comfortable. If one is looking for an economic option and is not expecting too much luxury then this is just perfect.

Unique Quality: There is a big restaurant on the 2nd floor offering local Chinese cuisine.

Xian Hotel

A fairly normal 4 star hotel located close to the city wall so easy to walk into the city centre. Generally a nice hotel with good service.

NOT recommended: Xian Hotel....

NOT recommended: Xian Hotel. We made the reservation there under the guise that it was a three star hotel. Should've sprung the extra $30 or so for the Sheraton. The plus was that it was pretty central, walking distance sort of, 10-15 minutes from the center of town.
Probably around $70 a night or so. Can't remember. Go for the Sheraton instead, think Clinton did. The plus was that it was pretty central, walking distance sort of, 10-15 minutes from the center of town. Rooms were very dark and walls in hallways were painted dark colors. Had TV's on the rooms showing Chinese Kung Fu movies etc. They do have a workout area, pool, sauna etc, but we never used it.

Hotel help Please

by janpiro

I'm trying to select some nice hotels in Shanghai and Beijing for March. I'm leaning towards Crowne Plaza Beijing and Radisson New World or Ramada Plaza Shanghai. Radisson is a bit more than I'd like to pay but will I be disappointed with Ramada Plaza? Also, is it too hard to arrange air and hotel to Xian and a Yangtze Cruise plus air when we arrive in Shanghai? My plan is to book flights Australia - Shanghai and Beijing - Australia. Spend 7 nights in prebooked hotel in Shanghai. Once there, arrange flight to Wuhan, Yangtze cruise, flight from Chongqing to Xian, hotel in Xian, then flight from Xian to Beijing to arrive at prebooked hotel for one week before flying home. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I just returned from a stay in Beijing at the Holiday Central Plaza. It is not right downtown, but it is an exellent hotel. Breakfast buffet, and also a dinner buffet or ala carte. Most rates include the breakfast. The staff was outstanding. You can take a cab from there to the tourist area, or walk as we did about 20 minutes to the subway. You might like to look at the following web site for reviews of hotels by previous guest from around the world. www.tripadvisor.com you will not find one negative review about the HI Central Plaza
