Quingdao will be a good place to learn chinese for german people,because you will find a lot of people here speaking some german and even some of the inscriptions in the city are in latin letters, so you will be not totally lost in the beginning like in other chinese cities. Qingdao is a city known as a commercial centre, diversity of architecture, Tsingtao brewery and wouls be home of watersports part of a 2008 olympic games. There you can find modern buildings, typicall Chinese market-streets and european-style houses built in a time of late 19th -early 20th century German occupation.
There is a neighbourhood in Qingdao that is full of markets and crowded with people. There you can find a lots of stuff, from interesting scenes to nice jewelery(spec. jade) and knockoff watches, bags and shoes.
There are great sightseeing points in Qingdao, like this pagoda and mushroom-like construction on the top of the hill. From there you can see allmost the entire city, with it's beautifull seaside.
