Between 1874 and 1914 Quindao / Tsingdao was a german crown-colony and they even had their own german stamps. Architecture was strongly influenced by german architects and in a certain way that stayed the same also after 1914, even the modern buildings of today have a "german touch".
Still nowadays you will find german schools in Quindao and a german bakery.
