Old World Charm
Try to visit a family in their home, visits can often be arranged thru hotel tourist desks. Yushan Hill Park is fine, and don't miss the Liqing Free Market.

The beaches are split by the town pier. The locals love to loll about here, but wear suits (not bikinis!)
I attended Qingdao University from September 2001 to December. We studied Chinese 4 hours a day and explored the city and surrounding areas the rest of the time. I spent much time on Beach #1 the northern most beach, the best as far as I am concerned. Qingdao has 6 public beaches for lounging and swimming.

There are some many good restruants within bus/cab/walk of the QDU campus that I miss it already.
