Astronautics Hotel (3*)

The China Astronautics Hotel (Hengtian Dasha) - so named because it is operated by the Shanghai Academy of Space Science - is a good value 3-star hotel out by Shanghai Stadium in the southern suburbs.
It is a good distance from the city centre, but obviously it is handy for the stadium, the tour buses and coaches that depart from the stadium (and also Hongqiao Airport).
At RMB 360 it is very good value for money, with clean rooms, in-room TV, comfortable beds, and a hot/cold water dispenser.

Unique Quality: The bathroom was clean and everything worked fine - lots of hot water for a shower, even though my room was on the 12th floor.
The room felt and looked clean and bright - not guaranteed in many Chinese hotels.

If you can put up with the distance to the centre (30 minutes in a taxi), then this is highly recommended. Shanghai is a very expensive city for accommodation.

Unfortunately there is very little in the way of restaurants or bars, cafes within walking distance though.
