Lucky me
by solopes
One of my deceptions in China was the poor interior of the monuments, some of them empty, the other only with isolated pieces of furniture.
This garden was no exception, but I felt lucky when I saw an exotic collection of chairs made from big tree roots.
They are fancy to look, but I felt sorry for the poor guys who had to sit there. Not us. Fortunately!
Shanghai Train Station
by SLLiew
The Shanghai Train Station is easy access by metro.
It is a major mode of transport for local Chinese from all over China to come to Shanghai.
It is also a convenient way for day trips to Suzhou as well as Nanjing.
So consider using the trains for some of your day trips out of Shanghai.
Postcard of the Bund
by Luchonda
Yes only a postcard - but is such a "must see"
that i use this one to show the previous and next China travellers how lovely this place is.
Not only lovely but also important as bridge between the west and east !
just go for it !
Surrealistic Yu Gardens.
by Guantanamera
This image shows a lovely and mysterious portal to one of the pavilions of Yu Gardens... I love the curvilinear aesthetic used, which magnifies the symbolic dimension of the door... This is really a detail from Ernst, Magritte or Salvador Dali...! One can't imagine who or what will emerge from behind such a door...!

"Close your eyes... feel and smell the oldies"
I have traveled to Shanghai for many times, this Spring Festival, i visited this city again.
Normally, i like to stay in Su Zhou with my friends, and so i can travel to all other cities and towns like Shanghai, Wu Xin, Hang Zhou, Yang Zhou, Zhou Zhuang, Tong Li etc nearby fairly easily.
_ Shanghai Night
In evenings, suggest you to check out the bar Street in Heng Shan RD ( there's a metro to reach there directly from the train station),
For qualitive and cheap meals, there's a Brazilian BBQ restunrant in Xu Jia Hui area, just opposite the biggest church of Shanghai, called Lucca, RMB66 for a wonder BBQ buffet with many options of different dishes and all different meat BBQ choices, ice cream and dessert is also covered.
For cheap price true Chinese food, u can check any of the Grant Mother Dumpling chain in this area, many different stuffings of dumplings are availible. 6 pieces per Liang(chinese measuement), suggest that u order 5 Liang dumplings with as many different stuffings as possiblefor two persons, all together are only less than 20 RMB
Try to check as many back streets as possible, so you can really explore the true life, history and custom in Shanghai, which are no more availible in the major streets anymore.
Bund Museum, which is located in Zho Shan Er Lu, just at the bank of the bund, opposite those old buildings ( Pu Dong Development Bank), which is a just light-house-looked building down in the middle of the street, 10 yuan each per person for the ticket to visit the museum and little tour of the profile and pictures which are hung in the old house, you can also use you ticket as a 10-yuan cupon for a drink. The best is that you can climb to the upper stage of the house to have fantastic view of the whole bund, in this busy busy main road, this is such a paradise to appreciate the beauty of the bund and have little rest after a long walk. It's peaceful and very few of people know this place, even the local people.
Peace Hotel, is also located at the bank of the bund, wonderful view esp. in evenings at the top of the hotel for the best view of whole area at the bund. If u are lucky, the waiters of the bar at the top floor would not ask you to pay, so u can raelly have your own hours to appreciate the combination of the modern lights and oldies beauty of Shanghai there, enjoy!
Astor House Hotel (Pu Jiang Hotel), one of the oldest hotels in Shanghai is located at the end north of the main Rd. at the bank of the bund. There are domitory rooms availible for tight budget tourists, rack price 55 RMB/night/per bed and 250 around for standard room. Highly recommendaed for its beautiful and old architecture, no mordern facilities availible here, close ur eyes, feel it as if u were back to 20's Shanghai, esp, for it's manual elevator.
Su Zhou is a city, which is one hr by train from Shanghai, it is famous for its beautiful and delicated gardens all through the city. take a ricksha ( always bargain at least to half of the price)to cruise the old part of the city is highly recommeded, esp. those back streets at the both sides of Gan Jiang Rd. ( opposite the Glory Plaza Hotel and also at the back of the hotel).
A small restrunrant at the corner of the junction in the back street on the way to the Twin Pogoda is highly recommended to try the real local dises with reasonable price.Nomally the owner cook their food outside, many different meat choices, you wont miss it.
There are some gardens and attactions are highly recommended for ur Su Zhou tour: Pan Men, Tiger Hill, Hunmble Administritive Officals Garden, Loin Forest, Ou Garden.Su Zhou Opera Museum, Tea House in the temple of Guan Qian Street ( wonderful opera show every night).
Tong Li, a highly recommended small town without much tourism flood, still keeps the old and traditional achitechture and life, most of the citizens are still living here. Have some of their local dumplings in one of the cheap and old local restunrants,And cruise to the end of stone-paced street, there's a Nan Yuan Tea House is a the best place to rest and appreciate the local opera show after a long walk.
