Good Time To Visit Shanghai
by chiabh
i am considering visiting shanghai after postponing many times... which is the better time to visit... late april (will depart by the 28th) or mid may (will arrive after the 10th) ~ just to avoid the may day holidays when almost everyone in china are on the move and shanghai is too crowded... i am talking in terms of weather conditions... is it too cold in end april and are the golf courses opened by then... regards.chia

I was in China last year from May 8 to June 17. I was in Shanghai at the beginning and end of my trip. One time it was sunny, the other time it rained. I can not remember if it was May or June when it rained.
It must have been June because Helenbb said May has better weather. :)

It's not yet the end of March but it's getting hot in Shanghai already!
Today, the weather hits a high of 28 degrees and a low of 17!
Wow... that's quite a quick change.
This winter has been really a warm winter and now, Spring has arrived, but it feels more like Summer... I think the temperatures in Shanghai are generally going up this year.
So, if I were you, I'd come visit this April and bring along some sunscreen for sure! :)
Have fun!
smiles,
francesca

An Airline with no service
by paul657
China Eastern Airline has the strangest idea of service I have ever seen. Such as telling you the flight time to Shanghai then a few minutes later delaying your flight by an hour blaming "Air Traffic Control". Then by the time we got in the air the flight attendents acted really wierd by yelling at people in Chinese and ripping peoples head-phones off, as they are not to be worn on take-off. I really liked the announcement that "We are now flying". Anyway what can you do if you want to save about $200us compared to other carriers. Just turn off your brain and let them control what time you leave. And please don't bother letting whoever is going to pick you up at the destination know what time you'll arrive as it is all just a guestimation. I could have had a bad experience so you'll have to try it out for yourself...just don't expect too much from MU!
The Door - Folk Restaurant
by Audrey118 about Folk Restaurant
The restaurant is HUGE - we went to the one near Hong qiao. Getting there from the city, was far.... they have several outlets but this was the one recommended by VTer we2364. Our hotel reception said there was one closer to the hotel, one in Pudong.
Getting there took us 20 minutes due to traffic, and it looks like to be close to some former airport area, and perhaps close to lots of expats housing as we saw an International school nearby.
The restaurant is huge - taking an entire block of shophouses, renovated to look like an entire entertainment outlet with fairy lights. When you get there, the man will ask which restaurant you are booked with - Chinese, Japanese etc. And we mentioned Chinese, he took a paper Chinese fan, and check our booking written on it. entering the restaurant was shocking... you see huge urns filled with peanuts - which you can eat and have the shells strewn all over the floor!!! there is water features, buddhas placed all overr part fhte interior. The food is typical Shanghainese - so we feasted on crab with salted egg yolk, huge ribs with garlic flavour - eaten with hands, delicious sprouts cooked in superior stock and yunnan ham, roast duck sandwiched with yam paste. Sticky rice cake and for dessert we tried the yam pudding...which was not too good though.
XinTianDi, Contemporary New Haven
by goglobe
A exquisitely newly developed entertainment site off HuaiHai Road, this place is known to be a trendy spot for the classy and young, a parallel to Hong Kong's Soho.
What's special about the place is that the streets retain their original locations, and blocks retain their old external look, so that the buildings are still low, the streets still narrow, forming quite a maze of sorts. But the attraction comes at night time when each of the cafe and restaurant buildings are lit, not glaringly bright, such that the ambience is uncanningly European. People hanging out at the tables in front of the shops add to the continental colours indeed. Most of the shops are eateries, Italian, French, Cuban etc. as well as crafts and fashion boutiques.
Shanghai - China's Most Cosmopolitan City
by vincentf
"Nanjing Dong Lu, Shanghai"
Welcome to Shanghai! The most modern city of China. All over this city, you see skyscrapers on both sides of the Huangpu River. The city is divided into two main sections: Puxi and Pudong. Pudong section is the modern side of Shanghai. Puxi is the historical side of Shanghai. The most 'happening' street of all mainland China, Nanjing East Road, Shanghai.
"Oriental Pearl TV Tower, Shanghai"
The third tallest tower in the world, Oriental Pearl TV Tower in Shanghai, the biggest city in China. It is located in the new development zone of Pudong.
This is the ancient part of town in Shanghai, Yu Garden. It is located in Puxi.
